I have always used a speakerphone in the car. I've never owned a phone with Bluetooth....until now.

I picked up an LG enV phone yesterday so I spent a little time linking it to the Bluetooth system in the Versa today. I tried it out while driving around, calling a friend on both his home and his cell phone, my wife on her cell phone and I left a voice message on the answering machine at home. I've heard comments about the system in the car sounding like you're in a tunnel, but in my case the sound quality was excellent at both ends of the calls and the voice recognition worked very well.

I was very pleased. For anyone who hasn't heard yet, starting in July in California holding the phone while driving is against the law. Hands-free is mandatory. One more reason for to at us while we're .

Is it a primary or secondary offense in Cali?

Here we have the same law, it's a secondary offense so you can't be pulled over and ticketed unless the cop pulls you over for something else (speeding, seat belt, etc)

I've found with my bluetooth system that while driving around town it's great. But if I get up to speed on the highway the people on the other end have a hard time hearing me. I guess it's just from the increased road noise.

Primary offense. You CAN be pulled over for not using "hands-free" while driving. The violation will appear on your driving record but it will not add a point to your driving record for insurance and license suspension purposes.

Drivers under 18 are banned from using the phone at all; for them using the hands-free is a secondary offense.

Here's a great set of questions with straightforward answers about the law from the California DMV:

My daughter's had her Versa since July, but just got a Bluetooth phone last weekend. Linked up very nicely and good quality sound on both ends. However, she didn't bother to read the directions. I called her and she tried saying, "Hello", "Answer", "Pick Up", etc, but it kept ringing. Then I suggested she push the button on the steering wheel to answer. Reminded me of Scotty in the Star Trek movie talking into the mouse - "Hello, computer?"!

I've had numerous problems with my bluetooth. It will dial a different number than what I said, even though it repeated the number back correctly. Those on the other end say I sound like I'm in a tin can. Sometimes it doesn't see my phone and acts as though my phone isnt on or in the car. I have an appointment tomorrow to have a new bluetooth unit installed. Hopefully it will correct my problems. I love having bluetooth tho. It's nice to not have to hold a phone up to my ear as I drive. I suspect tho that others may think I'm insane as they see me sitting at a red light talking to myself.
