Well some of you may know i just rebuilt the bottom of the motor. Had to put new cams in as well. Now there is a tapping noise. I know its not the timing chain tensioner because its already off. It gets quieter as the car sits and idles as well. And it doesnt really seem to affect the way the motor runs( other than the nasty noise). My buddy who put the car together thinks its the lifters. But i just figured id get some suggestions from you guys. Thanks for the help.

(the noise is actually a lot quieter than the video would suggest. i guess the mic on my phone is pretty sensitive)

Also i found this video. from IDAHOTUNER (i know hes on this forum) It sounds pretty similar to mine. Only his seems a little louder. He mentioned something about the shims. Is it possible that is my problem? Would that be the shims on the rockers? Thanks thanks thanks thanks!

that could be possible. I think it may have leaked a little. I havent been driving it really except around the block maybe a few times. But one of the turbo oil lines leaks a little. so that could be the problem. Im gonna change the oil before i drive it again and see if that helps. i gotta get some new oil lines as well!

If he did not bleeded all the air out of the Hydraulic lash adjusters, then it will make noises like that. you might have to get back in there and rebleed them adjuster... GL

yeah i second what was said above. Whats you oil pressure on start up and after 15 mins of running. A lot of motors in time... "knock" on start up and for a minute then its settles.....its moe than likely something with it not getting oil. Check the whole "oil flow related" systems

ok thanks guys ill bleed them and fix the oil lines and go from there, also been emailing idahotuner, hes a really nice dude and said to double check the position of the cams. I think his were a couple teeth off and it made a huge difference. So ive got my checklist of things to do.

Sit em in a jar of oil for a day or two, they'll bleed themselves. That also sounds like it could be a bad timing chain tensioner. Can't tell from the vid, it seems valvetrain related and those lifters will be loud if they aren't bled.

Yeah shes sounds low on the lubrication. But from experience I had a motor rebuild and the crank was out of round by a few thousandths and it did the same thing. I ended up needing to rebuild the bottom again, with a new crank.

At first it almost sounds like a wrist pin.

But check the oiling first before you get worried. New oil pump?

The most important thing is not to run it until its better,

hey my ka is making the same noise i think yours is making. it sounds like a ticking sound or something along those lines right? anyways if i is the lifters it would be a minor problem right?
