I tend to burn a little oil in my car...maybe 2 quarts for every 4k...im a spirited driver. But the other day I was showing my roomate the exhaust note from my cattman cat-back exhaust and he noticed smoke puffing out. I had only reved to around 3500 at best. Sure enough when he blipped it i saw the smoke ...Now I find myself not blipping at stop lights because of the hillbillyness of smoke coming from a near stock maxima...any suggestions, information, insite would be helpful. Is this a common vq35 problem?

2 qt every 4k is not a little, that's a lot. I see that you said nothing of a tick or rattle, but this is all relative! READ THESE LINKS!!!!:

Is burning the 2qt every 4k acurate? If it is that is excessive. The vq's on the 2000 up had a tendency to burn more oil esp. if it is synthteic.

WHAT, no way. The VQ30DEK burns nothing compared to the VQ35DEK. I've got 80k+ and burn maybe 1-2 ounces of oil every 3k miles. The 3.5 is well known for being an oil burner.

I've seen a few 2000's eat some oil. My 2000 ate some oil and a friend here with an anny edition 01 eats a little more oil. From my 3rd gen 1993 to the 2000 oil consumption was a lot more, but going to the 2k2 its even more drastic.

Your VQ30 should not BURN any oil... The oil burning problems are for the 02 and up VQ35 engines. VQ30DEK(2000-2001 Maximas) are ROCK solid.

Sorry what i was trying to say is compared to my vg in th e93 my 00 vq burned a little more oil. but my 2002 burned a significantly amount more. I should have stated that the vq30 burn a little more and then the vq35 burns a hell of a lot more. but not 2qt every 4k miles

Back to the question at hand. Like beancooker said that amount in that short amount of miles is a lot.
