Have I mentioned how much I hate mechs who cob s*** together just to hide something or customers who don't want to pay for the correct part. Taking apart my 95 tonight I noticed something weird, I could have sworn up and down that 99% of Nissan caliper bolts are 12mm. Seemed rather odd to me that on the passenger side caliper I found 2 13mm bolts where I should have found 12mm. Looks as though some bonehead either broke, stripped or lost the OEM bolts and decided to go ahead with whatever he had laying around the shop. Next, instead of replacing the squeal shims with the correct ones he used something that fit. I have to get a pic because what he put on is clearly the wrong ones. This must have been a Pepboys job. The driver side caliper is still held on with its 12mm bolts that the factory installed. I am glad I am doing this now and doing it right. I've put 20k on this truck since I bought it, who knows how long it's been like this. Have I mentioned how much I hate cob jobs?

I dont think I have heard teh term "cob" before. I see jobs like that all the time. My fave is the customer repairs that say the junk yard said it was ok to do that.

Finding a good mechanic to do the work you cannot do or do not have the equipment to do is a b****. I do most of my own smaller repairs, tune ups brakes etc. But the major stuff is a pain. it is amazing how many bad mechanics there are out there. Seems any monkey with a tool set can call himself a mechanic. Only thing worse is building contractors.

It makes no sense why the PO would have a beautiful truck yet let some hack work on it. Perhaps the selling dealer hacked it up before I bought it as well. I slid the rotor/hub assemblies off the spindles tonight. I love working on this truck, every bolt turned with ease tonight. Going to take the hubs to work, hit them with the air gun, swap the rotors over then bring them home. Got a bunch of painting to do while I am in there as well.

I replaced all the splash pan bolts with stainless. I really should start a build thread someday. Hellwig RSB shipped from Summit today!

I am glad I am not the only one that thinks this. I have been turning wrenches for over 20 years for a living and I see shops that rape peoples pocket books and their cars. Really makes it hard. But then again there are customers that will go everywhere till they find someone that will give them the answer they want to hear no matter how wrong it is.
