Gentlemen, Can anybody shed any light on this huge price difference?

Infinity dealer, $450.00Nisan dealer, $250.00Pep Boys, $65.00

I've read all that is "inspected" during this service and can not see why there is such a huge difference.

Profit, profit, profit. Not much to do at that interval if you are following the book.....of course the dealer will want to do any/every type of quick easy extra services to pad the bill......blinker flush, fuel induction service, throttlebody service etc, etc.......

One must understand itemized explicit definitions of each "service".

Thanks for your reply. After my $1950.00 exhaust manifold journey and then $600.00 starter motor, I am starting to get wiser. (or less stupid)I really like the car and want to keep it in tip top shape but everything is so much money thsese days. It is a white 2002 w/ 44, 000 miles. thanks again, Joe

Exactly. You need to know and control exactly what's done during your maintenence visit. Getting to "apples and apples" is the only way to compare. I would caution you against Pep Boys unless you personally know the tech. and trust his credentials.

Let the maintenence schedule in your owner's manual guide you. Of course, more frequent fluid maintenence is a good idea.

Outside of oil changes...Change fuel filter every 30k if you have the moonshine in your gas, new plugs if they are still factory (NGK) and rotate tires. Just inspect everything else for real. I wouldn't do the ATF fluid exchange or air filter until the pt coverage is almost up (3 months before). A lot of those things in the book are redundant, but if you wanna donate to the stealer....

Go with Infiniti or Nissan for the 45k service. Just be fully informed of what they are changing/fixing and checking.

Personally, I change all filters (engine air, cabin and fuel) annually. The fuel filter is a bit of an inconvenience, and if you are in an E10 area, you may want to change it more often. Air blow it out and compare dry weight to previously installed dry weight and you can determine interval.

What are your change intervals for transmission screen? transmission external filter?

transmission screen every time I have the fluid exchanged. about 30K. 100K for the external filter on the G50.

Let me return to the "service" question.

One of my G50 had the 60K service done at 52K. So I went to the dealer and asked him whether said "service" included a change of the differential lubrication, and if so, was it also changed at 30K?

The service writer's answer was, "We inspect it and if it looks good, we don't change it."

My comment in return was, "Well, if it looks bad, isn't already a little too late?"

So know exactly and explicitly what each "service" entails step by step.

So Gentleman, i went to pep boys and the promised they would check the page I copied from the service manual and they lied. the did the oil and filter and nothing else. He told me i need an air filtr and a tail light wich i bought and installed myself. I returned the next day cause they tech was crazy about how bad my tires were. Come to find out they did nothing but the oil change and noting else. I saw that the window washer fluid was empty when I change the air filter. When i returned the manager was shocked and aaapoligised and promised to checki all fluid levels whic he did do teh second visit when i bought tires. Long story short they have to be watched closley but the bill was $40.00 vs. $450.00 which si huge is my budget. I did get it al =l done for free and the ires whwicfh the said woulod be $575. turned out to be 480 because of they screw ups. Still I saved alot of $$$ for fluid checiks an 450 is abig difference than $40.00.4

The main difference between taking it to a shop where the operative technician is familiar with the model is where he knows to look for common maintenance and failure indicators. Unfortunately there are few shops with such skilled technicians left. The best alternative is to train an ASE who owns his own shop. Good ASE technicians are generally not working at nationally franchised shops.

Hopefully, he was smart and changed your oil from underneath by removing the engine tray.

Be very wary of any tires for that price. Do read the tire thread before committing. Even the correctly load rated tire from a name manufacturer may not be strong enough to work on the Q45.

NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO PEP BOYS.

That is just a rule of thumb. I PARK my car in their parking lot when I'm buying waxes and other stuff I need for the car.

They suck, I had an old Maxima where the PO bought a new power steering rack, 18 months later it blew out. I replaced it and the one I bought lasted 8 more years and was still working well when the transmission blew up.
