After receiving relatively minor damage to the left and right rear(<$3k total) from two accidents, we had Maaco do the repairs and then paint the entire car. Now the trunk release does not work and the hood shocks appear to be shot.

Have never had any problems with the trunk release until now and the gas cover release still works. There are no actuator sounds and there is no voltage at the trunk. How can a paint shop cause that and does anyone have any thoughts about fixing?

The hood shocks have never even hinted at any weakness. They can no longer hold up anything. Same question: How can a paint shop cause that and does anyone have any thoughts about fixing?

Thanks.

If you read the previous posts, you will find the Stabilus shock unit cited for the hood.

Well there is no need to tell you how bad Maaco is after all you must have suspicions.

Check the service manual for the wiring diagram for the trunk adn fuel door release: http://Nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45.

Make sure the cancel switch is turned to "OFF"!

Not sure about the hood shocks but I am sure Maaco killed them like they killed your cars paint job.

I didn't go in blindly, but one of my neighbors had had very good luck with this particular franchise, so...........

Compared to the previous paint condition I now have a black shiny car again. Only time will tell if it will last. I still find the claim that their one coat has an "integrated" clear coat a bit far fetched.

Thanks.I have looked at the wiring diagram and was able to rule out the fuse which looks common to both the gas cap and the hood release. Haven't found the cancel switch.

Did you leave anything in the glove box and was it locked?

Look in the owners manual for the cancel switch location.

Thanks for the good advice. Being able to use less than the available insurance funds on a 14 year old car with 140k and get a total paint job was the incentive. Otherwise it has gotten kid glove treatment to date. I only wish the money well was full so more could be done.
