when buying from private

If i were to buy a used car from a private seller then how do i know that the car wasn't stolen or illegal? Also, what kind of paper works do i have to receive from the private seller when buying the car? Be specific and list everything please. i'm sorry.

i think you need a bill of sale with the right address and vin and miles on it and a title with the correct vin on it there maybe more depending on where you live i know those 2 are a must to have im make sure the address and name of the person matches on the title unless the have moved verify everything with the bill of sale

Ask the seller if it is stolen, not his, is it a scam? Sounds too easy but if the deal goes through, get him to put it in writing, pay by paper, check, something to prove you paid, but see your local DMV and ask what they want. :ohno:
