My '94 Q45 has fuel injector problem. I was told by a mechanic that two need to be replaced. Another mechanic said if the car needs to replace two, you might as well replace all since the other will brake down soon. The car is only worth about $1200. Is it worth? I can't aford to replace all even with remanufactured injectors. The car also needs to replace two rear strut too.Do I really need to replace all or two is ok?Anybody please advise me, thank you in advance.

Good place to buy parts.http://www.raceinspired.com/showCategoryRI.aspx?

If only two are bad only two need to be replaced. Visit the Q section and let the experts help you out there.

Welcome to NICO! I just merged your duplicate thread in Infiniti Online Mechanic to this one...

http://www.deatschwerks.com has been a good source for "remanufactured" (really tested and cleaned) injectors.

Two remanufactured injectors are better than two bad ones. Eight new OEM ones are best - but cost is always a consideration. It's quite possible that you'll be revisiting this issue from time to time, since the injectors are very prone to failure since the widespread introduction of ethanol in the fuel supply. No one can say how long it will take for your others to fail. You will want to ohm test the injectors to be sure the others are in spec. - higher than 14 ohms means that injector is on it's way to failing as well.

Then it has probably suffered from neglect and deferred maintenance. If you can't afford the pro-rated $3,500 annually to maintain it after it has been restored, then it is time to move on to something you can afford.

Ohm test the injectors yourself and figure out which ones are bad. With a volmeter it won't take 5 minutes to check them yourself. You might be able to get off cheap if #1, #2 or #8 are dead since they can be replaced without removing the plenum.

Thank you for your advise, Mr. goody90q45.Mine has #1 and #7 injector are bad. Is it possible to replace without removing the plenum? Is it difficult to remove and install #1 & #7 injector, and how long can it take to do it?

#1 fuel injector is going to be easy to replace. It's in front on the driver side under the center plastic piece that has the engine data on it. You'll be done in 30 minutes. Replacing #7 will most likely involve removing the plenum but I think a few owners with Barbie hands have done some grinding to the plenum and been able to get a screwdriver in there to remove the injector cap. I replaced #7 on one of my Q's by removing all the plenum bolts and pushing the plenum off to the side without completely disconnecting it. Don't attempt any of this without reading up on injector replacement and specifically replacement of FI #7 (do a search).

If you take it to a shop to replace #7 they're going to have to charge 6-8 hours labor to complete the job.

Dear Mr. goody90q45

Thank you very much for your advise before.

My mechanic replaced two injectors (#1 & #7) and the car ran smooth, but could not be able to accelerate more than 30 miles per hour. I parked after driving 15 minutes and then 3 hours later I drove again. This time, after driving 5 minutes I smelled a lot of gasoline from the engine and same time the engine ran very rough. I drove to the mechanic, then the engine stopped and couldn't restart. Next day, I've found from the mechanic's assistance that #1 injector's chamber was completely flooded. The mechanic cleaned the chamber, and replaced with new injector again, then the car became normal. He showed me #1 injector and said looks fine (no O-ring damaged according to him), but to be safe he replaced with new one again.Everything seemed and sounded fine this time, but the car is not accelerating fast enough speed. The car became much slow to pick up the speed. For example, driving at 30 mile then stepping on the gas padel won't accelerating fast enough, it slowerly accelerating but the RPM shows high. The car eventually speeding at 40, 50 .... miles, but slow to pick up that speed.I've never had this problem before changing the fuel injectors this time.Spark plugs are all new; replaced two months ago.

Dear Mr. goody90q45,I would like to know what could went wrong at the first time and what could be the problem now not accelerating fast enough.

This is my first time dealing with this mechanic. I am not so confident about his skill and expertise.

Would you please give your opinion and advise.

Thanks so much!Peter

It sounds like the first time you drove out of the shop the #1 fuel injector was not seated properly and was leaking a lot of fuel into the cylinder. Did the amber Check Engine Light (CEL) come on during the drive?

The second time out of the shop it sounds like you may have a bad fuel pump or fuel pump control module (FPCU). Was the CEL on after the 2nd trip to the shop? Do you still smell gas? Have you heard a swarm of bees in the trunk lately (aka- noisy fuel pump)? If no CEL it's probably a fuel pump issue.

Since the plenum was removed it could be anything but if the CEL is not on we can narrow it down to just a few things. Let us know if the CEL is on/off, if you still smell fuel, and if a swarm of bees is chasing you.

Drop the Mr......Call me Goody.

With any older quasi exotic [cutting edge in its day] the owner must become educated and help generic mechanics, who don't specialize in your exact year and model.

This is especially true of technical areas such as wiring and electronics.

I get this reinforced almost daily in my spare AMG C43 MB. I'm constantly buying special tools to fit EU vehicles vs the $20,000 worth of Japanese.

imagine a 46mm socket to fix an oil filter leak.

Until E10 Nissan had very few injector problems, so technicans and mechanics have little experience with the change out proceedures to avoid causing leaks.

Thanks Goody,

I didn't get CEL on first, second time and now. I don't smell gas anymore.I don't hear any noise like a swarm of bees in the trunck area either.Today when I drove the car, the car seemed perform littel better; better acceleration, but not so much. I drove the car over the freeway last night to test the car. It went 40, 50, 60 ... miles per hours, but still accelelation was slow than before.I've noticed at a park or neutral gear, RPM (1,000) is higher than before. I remember it used be about 800 or lower. At the driver gear while stopping, the engine sounds running faster and louder, and the RPM shows 800 (?). I think the gas mileage become worse. Is it possible coil not working properly since the #1 chamber got completely flooded. Since there was possibility the sylinder got flooded, do I need to change engine oil?Can a fuel pump becomes bad all of sudden? The car accelerated fine with new spark plugs before this mechanic changed injectors.

Thank you vey much!Peter

Quite frankly you have probably got a ton of problems causing all these symptoms.

The best course of action for you would be to get to an expert shop like http://www.jerrytucker.net and have your car analyzed. Then you can set a comprehensive plan of triage to correct deferred maintenance and restoration instead of teaspoons of pablum that may or may not address your current problem. I think somene recently posted about a shop in LA with an experienced es Infiniti technician.

"Mechanics" and crumbly advice will land you deeper in trouble than you may want to dig yourself out.
