This morning I went to my local Infiniti dealer hoping to resolve a dashboard rattle that I had been dealing for a while. I'm sure a few of us here know the rattle I'm talking about. It happens the loudest when the vehicle is cold and the rattle slowly goes away when you turn on the front defogger.

I went on a test drive with the tech and we clearly heard the noise. Later on the day I got a call from my service advisor saying they insulated the noise and most of the rattle is gone and its gonna cost an hour of labor. I was like cool ok.

This evening I went to pick up my car. Paid $163.15. On the repair order it says: Road tested car found noise from front wiper cowal & harness inside of dash board. Remove wiper cowal & put insert form. On my way home for the first 5 minutes it was all good. No noise. I was like Yes! no more rattle but I spoke too soon.

Within the next 2 minutes the rattle came back louder than ever. I was thinking you gotta be kidding me its even worse than before. I couldn't go back to the dealer because all the service advisors left already. I basically paid $160 just for the dealer to make the rattle even worse.

Do I call back and complain or call consumers affairs about this issue not being fixed?

I feel your pain! I just brought in my second 2007 M45 for some of the same issues my first one had. They fixed the seat track issue, took care of my "creaking" steering wheel and adjusted a piece of trim that had popped off.

I also had them look at the dash rattle. The service advisor manager nodded knowingly when I explained the rattle and said it was common and there were a couple of fixes. They took apart the dash, readjusted an alignment pin and added some insulation.

They said that fixed the problem. It did....for about a half hour! The rattle is now back. I wouldn't say it has gotten worse though.

My previous dealer stuffed foam inserts under the defroster vents, in front of the dash agaisnt the windshield, and inside the center speaker conpartment, and the rattle is still there. I'd love to know what hell this rattle is and where it's coming from.

they forgot to put the foam in the part that makes the most noise... our mouths because we complain so much! I kid, I kid. I have the same issue, including my glovebox rattling, speaker rattling, headliner rattling. I have tried in vain to isolate every sound and can't, no matter what I do...

I took my dash apart when replacing the tweeters (y34) and still could not *exactly* source the rattle. Mine rattles sometimes and others not so much.

Mine in a 10,000 car, so I am ok with it--not sure how I would feel if I paid a lot of money for it.

I was kind of hoping that the Ms were relatively free of the horrific rattles that plague most of the G35s. I know that fit and finish is an issue with the entire Infiniti line and that rattles will naturally fall within this category. I don't see a whole lot of complaints on rattles for the M in many of the forums. I'm looking seriously at the M37 and hope they try to improve their quality control in this area.

I guess im a "lucky" one when it comes to these rattle issues. I havent noticed any. The only thing I notice is a buzz type sound when i turn my music off...sounds like it is a buzz from one of the back speakers. Havent looked into it tho...

I have the same rattle! I have an 03 Y34 with 118000 and when I hit about 58-62 mph, it starts. I tried to figure it out too, but I cant get it to go away. The only thing that might help is that I figured out if you pinch the two vents together in the center of the dash, it will take care of it... but you don't want to drive with your hand in the middle of the dash all the time. I just keep the defogger on and the radio up. Drives me nuts.
