Hi,

My car is an automatic and has only 92,000 miles on it and the transmission seems to be dying. It has trouble reversing with full power (feels like it's in neutral). Also, it seems to be slipping between 2nd and 3 rd gears. It feels like it should be switching sooner as I speed up but lags. I've been still driving it for at least 600 miles and really don't want to replace the transmission. Could it be anything else? The transmission fluid is fine, I'm trying the Lucas transmission stop slip stuff just now but haven't felt anything different yet. Someone told me if I flush it it could make it worse. Is it dangerous to drive? How can I know that it's really the transmission?

I really don't know much about cars so it would be awesome to get some help from people who know this stuff as opposed to mechanics who're gonna try to rip me off. Really appreciate it. Thanks!

Lily

Seems like it has to be the torque converter.

I wouldn't say it's dangerous unless it's getting progressively worse quickly. I'd get it in a shop as soon as you have a chance, though.
