I just purchased a vortech FMU with an 8:1 ratio would this be alright or do I need to opt for the recalibration kit with say a 6:1?

stock 95 240sx (now)parts I have:nismo 555ccsafc neoupgraded fuel pump not sure whichz32 mafsmall ihi hampster wheel

Ithink I have a FPR laying around somewhere if not should I scoop one up?

I plan to just keep everything cheap and cost efective while keeping as much reliability as possible so my goals have been scaled back a bit lol, I was thinking of utillizing what i have to boost around 8lbs

would a few degrees of distributor timing need to be retarded for 8lbs?

thanks ahead of time and if theres anything else or just some comments questions or concerns ask and post, imput is welcomed

why?? I mean FMU??? get your ECU tuned at e-mance ($170 and make a fine tune with with your NEO)... it would solve a lot of issues...THE BETTER TUNE - THE LONGER YOUR ENGINE WILL LIVE!!!

Never buy an Emance anything. WAY to many problems...way. EFI Specialist is a far better option IMHO.

The FMU is fine for 8 psi. Just so long as you know you don't use 555cc injectors AND the FMU. It's one or the other.

Also, I'd retard the base timing just a touch for safety. A small bump will be 2 degree's or so, which is perfect for 8 psi.

good info, so about the injectors do you think the stockers can hold up to the 8lbs?

oh and about the exhaust setup I plan on getting one of those cast ebay manifolds which I believe is a top mount from the pic but it doesnt say in the description http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...3f54e

and I was wondering how I could connect this up to my exhaust?

yes I know by down pipe lol but where can I find a top mount down pipe to fit my stock exhaust or if thats too restrictive I do have an RS*R TBE though I would preffer to use my stock if possible

Unless you buy a complete kit, then the down pipe and some other piping will all have to be custom.

I suggest buying the JGS turbo kit, comes with everything you need on the turbo side. All you'll have to source will be the FMIC and piping, which can be found on EBay for pretty cheap.

The FMU raises the fuel pressure as it see's boost, that's how it works with stock injectors. This enables the injectors to spray far more fuel then they would normally.

so the 8:1 on the fmu would work ok?

and with the exhaust, what if I was to use my RS*R tbe and go with a bottom mount manifold would the down pipe from my sr20det setup work on it?

If you are using a bottom mount that mimmicks the SR20 bottom mount, and a similar turbo then yes the SR20 DP should bolt on without an issue.

I'm always leery about the turbine output flange itself. There are like a million different damn flange types.

Ok that's a slight exaggeration

ok so I found a manifold that mimics the one I've got cross the fingers and hope it works I guess

and Im guessing the 8:1 fmu will be alright I take it? no one has objected to it yet...

oh and one more thing at just 8lbs should I even bother with the z32 maf?

I dont think you'll need the Z32 MAF. Stock MAF maxes out around 240-250whp. I'm guessing you decided on a T28.

Wouldn't the 555cc injectors and SAFC be better than stock injectors and FMU? And WD usually suggests 6:1 FMU's...

something I was just toying with the idea of was getting one of those timing controlers to retard it a bit doesnt msd make one? what kind of boost could I push on stock internals with one of those, or is that a bad idea I just dont know enough about them really?thought I might do it if I could find one for cheap on ebay

the thing about the safc is I dont know how to tune it and it would cost too much for tune and dyno time ya know, the $50 I have invested in the fmu take care of that

If you're just going to run low boost then you'll only need to retard the timing a couple of degree's at the dizzy. No need to install the MSD BTM. Once you get the bug for more power just invest in a Rom tune and the injectors and MAF to match. That's the best way to go IMHO.

The FMU will provide more then enough fuel for 8 psi and the slight retard of the base timing will give you a nice margin for safety.
