Post

Greeting all,

I have been a lurker for quite some time, yet this is my first post.

I have a 92' and a 90' Q45, and for the most part I have been able to get things repaired...until now.My 90' is a base model with out TCS and 4 wheel steering like my 92' has, and although it runs fantastic, it fails the emissions test in both CO & HC at idle.

I have checked the timing, set the idle (which climds to about 750 when I plug in the ICV), performed self diagnosic Level 1, with a code 55 (no codes). However when I go to level 2, the left bank flashes several times in 10 seconds where bank 2 does not flash. O2 sensors are new and voltages average around 8V.

So my buddy says "Hey try this spare ecu out", but his spare does not go into closed loop on either bank where my original ecu does on the left side only.

Could it be that both ECU's are defective? Or am I on a goose chase here?

Thanks in advance,Blake

What brand O2 sensors?

What do they OHM at?

Does the LED on the ECU go off 5 times in 10 seconds?

From what I have heard ECU's either work or they don't according to Wes.

Idle should be 650 RPMs if everything is clean and like new.

I am not doubting you but you followed the service manual to the letter right?

They were Bosch terminated sensors; ohms..dunno.

Left side flashed 8-10 times in 10 seconds, turned screw, waited 2 seconds, turned screw back, and right bank does not flash. Jazzing the gas would flash the light once, otherwise no flashes on right bank @ 2000rpm.

Reading of O2 voltage at ecu was darting around .8V for both banks (rich). Going to test fuel pressure tomorrow. Oh and I had the injectors replaced, they are at 17ohms each, wondering if they were rebuilds now.

Thanks,Blake

Injectors are supposed to be between 10-14 OHMs anything above is dead.

The O2 sensors are not really OEM but I haven't heard of any problems with anything other than OEM. To be fair though I have only heard of people using OEM O2 sensors.

It sounds like one of your right bank injectors didn't seat properly and is sending raw fuel past the O2 sensors. The right bank has 2 injectors that you can get to without removing the plenum (#2 and #8) so maybe you'll get lucky by replacing the lower orings and reseating just those two.
