So I have a 99 i30 and I recently installed some 6000k H.I.D's. However, randomly sometimes when I put on one of my turn signals, the left one will shut off, or the right one will dim. I got them from hidextra.com. I've come up with some things that might be wrong.

-My car battery is pretty old, power is about halfway what it's supposed to be

-My rear turn signals are L.E.Ds and so they blink faster because I have no resistors to compensate

-Possibly a bad ballast?

Anyone know about this problem?

Thanks for the help.

Did you connect them directly with the headlight wires or did you use a relay? If no relay then you need to put one in and it will solve the problem

Beyond that, swap bulbs (from side to side). If the symptoms follow the bulb, then it's not your ballast.

Well thats whats weird, I asked about the relay for the 9004 type bulbs, and they said I didnt need one?

And yeah jltibbs, I'll try that too.

But you guys don't think its the battery or the L.E.D turn signals?

If you installed a HID kit, including ballast, then it's always best to use a relay.

Yeah I just e-mailed hidextra.com and they said that they believe that it may be my OEM connector "leaking" power? Is this possible? And they said it could be drawing to much power.

In any case, they are sending me a relay for free so I will see if that works and get back to you guys.

Thanks in the meantime

unless its a bi xenon kit you dont need a relay, and besides the hid's suck less power than the halogen bulbs, i'd do the bulb swap first lik the person above said funny thing is ppl have problem wiht these expensive systems I bought a kit from ebay for $90 shipped from china and its been almost 3 years and still works great

Well they are the hi/lo kit so I don't know if that would change anything.

You guys don't think its this Chicago weather do you? Maybe affecting the performance of the ballasts? I mean it's been extremely cold and snowy here lately.

Got the problem fixed.

E-mailed hidextra.com and they sent me a relay for free w/ free shipping. Can't beat that.

Put the relay in and hasn't flickered since.

Thanks for the help everyone!
