I just wanted to get some input by someone who has some firsthand experience on this topic. I have done a 5-speed swap about 18 months ago, no check engine lights are on and the car runs great. I swapped the 96OBDII Automatic ECU to a 95OBDII Manual ECU. I wanted to know if the people at the testing station will bother me about the ECU having a different VIN number than the car. If so is there anything i can do to pass.

I don't know how they do their emission test up there, but if it passes the OBD check and the gas analyzer test why would they be concerned about the ECU? Besides, the ECU doesn't have the car vin number on it.

Thanks. I was told by some people that the ECU does hold the VIN, i guess its only in some new cars.(BMW and Mercedes tech also said that)

The ECUs in the later model cars will give you module info, but i can't say that i have seen a VIN number in the info.
