Hi, I am having issues with my speedometer & odometer. Sometime the MPH work and sometimes is at 15 MPH when I am not moving. The Odometer will work on and off, with the Speedometer working or not. The Speedometer also raises speed in neutral when the engine is revved.

This started in 1995 with the Odometer getting stuck and then after tapping on the cover or dash it would begin to read millage. The speedometer started to act up over the last 2 years. I am the original owner.

Should I try to replace the Speed Sensor 1st and then if that does not work the speedometer cluster?

What is a good price for a cluster? I found one on Ebay for $50 and a sensor for $50.

Actually mine has been acting up like that, noticed that last winter when I moved to chicago, when my car is cold my speedo (digital cluster) will read random MPH and when I rev the speed raises and I noticed its causing the miles on my odometer to go up and my car is only parked idling, im also thinking its my speed sensor because after the car warms up it doesn't do it anymore, only does it in the cold. Anyone help me out too?

HI, I thought so, some people say change the speed sensor but because it has done this 5 years after I bought the car in 1990 and gets bad in the cold and worst with time.

KC240guy - Did your cluster have a gauge in it for $15Was it hard to remove it? I changed the plastic cover in 97 and it was not that hard but I did not remove the cluster, just took the lens off.

Someone is selling a complete cluster on Ebay for $50.

yeah, it was complete but I got it from a friend so it was a hookup. It's kinda hard to get out because of the steering wheel being in the way. There's a way to drop the wheel but I got it out without doing that. It could be either one gone bad, the age of the car doesn't matter. A real good bump could mess the speedo up. Mine went bad after I did solid motor mounts. it started bouncing up and down and sometimes at 0 when I'm moving and coming back when I hit a bump. Also sometimes around 20 when I'm stopped and then just quit. I'm not sure if the odo reads off that or the speed sensor, that may be the deciding factor between the gauge or the sensor.

Your problem lies in the Speedometer, not the sensor. I've had this happen in 2 of the 4 S13s I've owned(including the odometer acting up). It's not very difficult to replace the speedo gauge. Just be sure when you remove it you don't mess with needle... It's easy to mess up its calibration. I've also replaced my speed sensor which did nothing to fix this problem...

Currently I have a 180MPH Speedo made by LSautomotive. Works great! But expensive...

Hello, Do you have to take out the cluster to replace the gauge or is it easier to just replace the complete cluster.

THANKS SO MUCH.

I have been tapping on it for years hitting it VERY hard at times..

You have to remove the cluster to replace the gauge.

All mine have been analog. But I would think it's the same with the digital clusters. It's just a module with a few screws in the back of it. But I don't have first hand knowledge on digital clusters. It's harder to get to the cluster than it is to replace anything in it.

i have an extra pignose speedo but the tach stopped working on it whenever it wanted to..wouldnt that figure..it would either work perfect, kinda work, or just not show how fast i was going at all..i had to learn how fast i was going in what gear using rpms..like 2000rpms in 5th gear was about 45mph..ghetto right? but ya im doing a dual cam swap and you have to change the speedo..but i dont think my extra would do you much good

you don't have to change the speedo just the tach. I have a dual cam swap in my 90 with the 90 speedo and it matches speed with my completely stock maxima side by side on the highway.

My Tach is fine, The Speedometer is not working or reads mileage when I am sitting still or does not read any MPH.

I never said I was having any problems with my tach.

NISMOBENZO - So you have a working Speedo? Could I just install it in my original cluster? Would you sell just the Speedo?

THANKS

HELLO
I changed the Cluster and the speedo works fine but now the Tach does not work. I put back in my original cluster and now that Tach does not work.

What could I have done to break 2 tachs. I forgot to disconnect the battery when I did the 1st swap. I checked the fuses and they look good.

Could it be some fuse or fuse-link wire? Everything else works..

ANY SUGGESTIONS>>
