Ok so there we were driving down the snowy road minding our own business when the engine cuts off. Limped it to advance they scan it, comes back knock sensor. Obviously I’m expecting the worse with this thing after hearing the outrageous cost in replacing it. My question is would the knock sensor cause the engine to shut off? When I try to start it after it cuts off it acts as if it’s not getting gas. So I checked the cap, when I first opened the cap it sounded as if air was rushing, not sure if it were coming in or going out. Tried to start it again and acted the same way. If I let it sit for a while I am able to start it and drive it for a mile or so. So give me your best guess…. Oh one other thing, the tires were rotated prior to this happening. Not saying that has anything to do with it but maybe there’s a line or something that could have been damaged. Thank you for any input you may be able to provide!

It's a bastard to replace because it's buried down in the engine, and everything on top needs to come off to get to it. I can't imagine it having anything to do with your tire rotation. Just coincidence there.

Verdict is in..... Fuel Sending Unit! That's the good news the bad news is the part is two days out and they don't want to honor the recall. Well I take that back, they said they did when they applied the sealant. So needless to say I've got a call into Nissan's Recall Department trying to convince them they need to take care of it. I know this is a uphill battle but I told them before they applied the sealant that this truck has spent more time in the winter months in Michigan than in North Carolina. As far as the tire rotation I wasn't sure if there was a fuel line somewhere that could have been compromised.

The reason why you have a KNOCK sensor code is because when the fuel sending unit went bad, the engine was starved of fuel for a little bit so the knock sensor picked up a cylinder misfire dues to insufficient fuel. 99% of the time a knock sensor will not set off the check engine light. There is a couple special occasions. LOW VOLTAGE TO KNOCK SENSOR is one. The connector itself starts to corrode. Its located on the valve cover. No, not the knock sensor connector. That one is buried with the knock sensor itself. Ive done several of these jobs replacing knock sensors, when they do go bad. Takes me bout 3-4 hrs.

Yes above is right and the air noise when opening gas cap is normal in a sealed pressurized fuel injected system. I know folks whose gas cap vent was bad and cause run issues, removed cap would run a bit then lock. They had to replace the cap, strange stuff but happens. That is not your issue though.
