So I really want to add a consult port for data logging and such.

1990 s13's didn't have Consult to my knowledge so it looks like it going to be a fresh start for me. I'm not sure exactly where to start but here is the list of things I think I need so far.

Consult Plug and Wiring (Q45 ECU side)Ebay Consult plugconsult software on laptop

I haven't even really looked into it that far yet so any advise is appreciated.

If they had no Consult port then how did dealers diagnose them, Because the Consult helps a ton?

The Consult system is like a LAN because so many systems are connected to it. Do you only want engine diagnostics or do you want to go further?

i know the s13 91 and up had consult plug. i know for sure 89 did not have consult plug.as far as 90 you should just check in the driver side fuse panel or under the dash on driver side for consult plug. if it doesnt have it you can add on you have to run wired from ecu and also power and ground wires. positive should be switched circuit.if you wire one in you will at least be able to mount/place it anywhere you want. i.e right next to ecu save on time since you will only need to make short wires and you wont have to runn it through the dash

Mine is a 91 and i'm pretty sure it has a consult plug... i myself have yet to wire it up to work with the q45 ecu though...

But it should be under the panel the hood release is bolted to.

91+ S13s had consult ports

89 & 90 are hit and miss. Some had the port but it was not functional and some didn't have it at all.

It's dead easy to put in anyway. Three wires from the ecu and you're done.

On the Z32 the only other thing that you can look at is Auto computer and climate control diagnostics. For most of us that doesn't really matter.

If you look at the wiring diagram for the VH engine harness, there are a hundred wires going to this "Check Connector." It can be added simply enough.

If by a hundred you mean 6, then yes. Only 3 are required to make it work though. I only have 3 connected in my Z with the VH running and it works fine.
