I recently did a 300zx n/a brake conversion...i got new rotors and pads ,(90,non turbo 300zx,z32)the problem is that after I installed it, the rotor is stuck on the caliper.the rotor can't even move at all, until i loosen up the two bolts that holds the caliper...is the caliper bad or do i need to bleed it more? the caliper is in the right position with the bleeder valve on top..any answers will be great!

Sounds like you've got 30mm rotors with 26mm calipers.

That bolts that you are using to bolt up the caliber is from a 300zx or a 240sx?

The 300zx bolts are too long and will go to far and hit your rotor. The 240sx bolts do not.

your problem lies with either one of these.measure the rotor.should be exactly 30mm.

Do NOT do this. People have been successfully doing the 300zx brake swap for years. If you need a washer then something is wrong. Your brakes are the most important system in your car. Fudge around only if you do not respect your life or the lives of others.

sorry to threadjack BUT. ive done this swap aswell. everything fit perfectly on one side, but on the other, the rotor hits the metal part of the caliper. yes the pads are in yada yada. could this be from bleeding it when the rotors werent pressed all the way on?

i used the 240sx bolts to hold the rotors in placed.it is not hiting the rotor. the rotors just seem to be stuck after i bolted teh caliper on..

will a 28mm bolt fit into a 26mm sized hole. No. You can't out something that has bigger diamiter into a smaller diamiter hole.

Get 26mm rotors.

See if rotor is in exact center like this. Another reason that I can think of it, stuck pistons. Measure the thickness of the rotor. Use your common sense. You will need some room for pistons move and you don't want too much room there either.

i keep seeing this lately. where is this 28mm size coming from? no z32 ever came with 28mm brakes. it's either 26mm or 30mm.

if you were able to get the caliper and pads on the rotor in the first place, the rotors aren't 30mm. i was originally sent 30mm rotors and there was no way to get the calipers on at all (my calipers are also 26mm). i think your pistons are stuck.

On 30mm rotors they say 28mm which is the discard measurement. When they get to 28mm thickness they fail inspection and should be tossed.

oh ok. that makes sense. in which case, op has the wrong rotors and i'm shocked he even got the calipers and pads on there at all. mine weren't about that business at all.

As far as I know, Nissan doesn't use 28mm rotors.

^ 04-05 Nissan Quest... I've also read that several set of performance rotors are 28mm even though 28mm is the "replacement point"

first of all, thanks for the ideas people..since i'm new at this conversion thing, i measure my rotors yesterday, they were 280mm x 30mm...so i guess that is too big for a 26mm aluminum caliper.i believe that i need 26mm rotors since my caliper is from a 90 300zx n/a...

This was your problem. They don't know what they are selling. Sorry, man. Get the right rotors and be done with it.
