Engine:S14 SR20DET Rebuilt w upgraded pistons.Chassis: 1995 s14, original owner

Problem: TransmissionTransmission is done, ran it with low oil(save me the comments).I have an old colleague whom I trust that owns a transmission shop. He has a quote for me of $1800.00 to rebuild the original s14 transmission that came with my clipto factory specs. I did not know this was even possible? Is it?I have the cash, but i also have choices;

1. I can do the rebuild-----which gets me back on the road with a great transmission but, it will be expensive to rebuild again in 5 years or so.

2. I can Swap the bellhousings from a 1995 s14 US transmission with my JDM bellhousing and run that till it dies.------Taking into consideration that the US transmission is NOT built like the ------JDM one------I am also assuming that the US transmission is not as strong as ------the JDM one. Am I wrong?------I can find 95 transmission all day for $300, so i could potentially do this ------swap 4 or 5 times and still not spend $1800.00

3. I can go all out and put a z32 US transmission with an adapter plate from mazworx. ------This would be good for power and the ability to swap the z32 ------transmissions out.

Keep in mind this car has the power goals of 400hp in about 2 yrs.

So please vote and give me your thoughts...thanks!

So your old buddy is gonna rape you is what your saying. I'm just thinking that's way too much to rebuild a transmission. Get a JDM transmission!

Well, I don't think he is raping me.Here is why I think he is not raping me. 1. He is an upstanding guy. With a reputation to uphold, and a storefront that does everything from his mustangs to mom grocery getters. 2. He races mustangs and spec miatas. Which means he knows what I'm looking for as far as a good transmission that I can beat up. He knows I'm going to put this rebuild through its paces, and he will still give me a one year warranty. Good work is well paid. This why I don't think he is raping me. As far as a JDM transmission, they are not hard to come by, but I don't know what im getting. Its a crapshoot that I could spend a 750 on and get a transmission that was beat up. Plus most jdm importers don't have them readily available.

I see what your saying on having a transmission you know can handle the beating. It's a hard decision but I still say go to a good place for a jdm transmission and you have a nice amount of money left over for other important stuff...

You gave me a good idea, and I searched around for a used JDM transmission from an import dealer. I found a few for 499.99 + shipping. I think i will try that first. Have my friend inspect the transmission and make sure I didnt get a lemon, if i do then i will send it back. If i get a good one or one that needs minor repairs then ill just use that one. Thanks for your input
