So today I decide to clear up some apps from my laptop. I end up uninstalling like 4 or 5 programs one after another. My PC edicate tells me to reset my PC but, eh...

I carry on. I find my Google browser freezing after 10min of use. A message pops up reading "Adobe Flash 10 is slowing down. Would you like to cancel the script?". I click yes and still it is frozen until I close all my browser windows. Explorer and Foxfire are really slow, but they do not freeze and crash. I restarted my PC then chose the "Boot Menu" option (F12) and selected diagnostics option. I received an error:

My question is what is it? What caused it? What to do to fix it?I plan on:- doing a full HDD error-checkhttp://img94.imageshack.us/img94/2497/25183375.jpg

The browsers are working fine now, but I want to fix the error.

Any help is appreciated...

Try booting to your Windows CD and running Windows Repair.

Your hard drive may be failing and need replacement. I hope you have good backups.

0146 is a previous event failure. It's not a real failure, but I'd suspect harddrive failure

Unfortunately I don't have any of the original OS software that came with my laptop. But from what people are saying, it is a HDD issue. But if my HDD goes, I wouldn't know what to do.

So I go ahead and take the advice from the like you posted and deiced to find this "System File Checker" and well I type "Sfc.exe" into my search and apparently I can't search this unless I have a XP Profession disk in my drive?

Well in an earlier thread I posted I had a bad cluster which means my HDD isn't fairing to well and Paul Wall suggested SpinRite software. Will this fix my issue?

Might want to try this if your worried about it: http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm
Thanks for the help guys!

Hmmm ...perhaps you might not have have a full install of Windows for some reason. It should exist - even my Vista system has it.

In a DOS command prompt window, try entering:

"dir c:\windows\system32\sfc.exe" and see if this file exists. If not, then this option is not available to you, unfortunately, unless you can find an XP install disk to load it from as that image represents.

Spinrite from http://www.grc.com is an excellent program - I have successfully used it in the past to rewrite and repair some clusters and drives. It can and should fix a lot of drive issues, but without actually trying it (I think they have an eval version), you will not be entirely certain if it fixed what you are experiencing. One good thing: you can boot it from a floppy or CD, so that Windows does not have to be running.

Regardless, even if Spinrite is successful in repairing the drive problem, please start doing regular backups in case the drive does fail completely ...

Well I figured out that I do indeed have some HDD issues and got my storage devices (All of them) checked out thoroughly with Spinrite. BUT I still need some help from you guys, I am not sure how to interpret the results of my (12+ hrs worth of) Spinrite tests.

Help a bratha out?

Is any of this information useful interms of figureing out the status of my drive or is this normal stuff.

These are all errors I recieved from "Item 2 on drive 0". It is a partition on my drive used for "GoBack", which is a Norton recovery software thing... I think.Any thoughts on this? More on this in my video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBlD71UWsVkI was messing with my Video software and decided to add music and effects, ignore them.

The rest are results of my HDDs "performance test" - the drive/partition being tested is highlighted in purpleAnything going on here? Anything that raises eyebrows or warning signs? My add on slave drive is just a 60GB External USB HDD I have.

Also before I changed my Boot sequence back to normal (I changed it because I was failing to get Spinrite to run but the issue was not related to the boot sequence) I got this error. Anyone know what it means?http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/8005/1002753.jpg

Thank you in advance for any responces

Unplug your external drive.

If that doesn't resolve it you may need to repair the windows installation.

I would recommend just replacing the drive.
