Hey guys, I want to be able to connect my RCA or Composite plugs or HDMI from my Sat receiver to my USB TV Tuner, then plug the USB TV Tuner into my laptop. I want to watch TV on the laptop, I want to be able to record while watching and I want to still be able to watch my Sat on my TV if I wanted.

What would be the products name? I don't even know what to search on Newegg or Google...

Any help, alternatives or advise would be much appreciated.

There are all-in-one solutions for what you need, but you can also look for the software and hardware solutions separately. There is a good variety of DVR software out there that'll let you pause and record TV. And you just need a USB TV tuner to supply the TV feed.

A lot of USB TV tuners do come with their own DVR software, though.Pinnacle seems to make some of the best. They even make tuners that support HD. You can get them with coax or HDMI inputs.

Google "Pinnacle USB TV Tuner" and you should find lots of good results.

MoD I searched Pinnacle and found a product I thought would be solid:Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro Stick

But apparently Pinnacle PCTV product line has been sold to Hauppauge Digital.http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/pctvEOL

On Hauppauge's page I found one that I though would be good:http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/prods.html

The HD PVRhttp://www.hauppauge.com/site/....html

But for $250 IDK if that is what I am willing to spend, plus reading the specs I don't think I need that type of overkill.

So after the searching around I have some more questions:The products labeled as "sticks" usually look like this - http://cache.gizmodo.com/asset...t.jpg

I don't plan on having a coax cable hooked up to a card hanging off my laptop. I am looking for something closer to the Hauppauge model.- http://www.hauppauge.com/pics/hd_pvr_small.jpg

I want to watch TV on the laptop, I want to be able to record while watching and I want to still be able to watch my Sat on my TV if I wanted. Who should I call about this? Is there some one I can conversate with to figure out my options? Should I just get on the phone with Newegg or Tiger Direct and just start asking questions.

I think what you need is a TiVo or a slingbox...

Something like a TiVo but I want to also watch on my PC. Slingbox, not so much.

Any TV tuner with the correct inputs will be able to do this.

Most, if not all, cable/satelite boxes output to HDMI, component, and composite all at the same time. Just plug one of the last two in to the tuner you choose and you're good to go. You won't be able to record a different station then the one you're watching though
