My last oil change was 6+ months ago ... I used Mobil1 5W-30 synthetic ... right now my mileage is @ 2200 miles since that ... what you guys recommend???

Usually, my recommendation is 4 months or 3750 miles - whichever comes first - to change your oil and filter. However, this may be a bit excessive in your case if you have only driven it 2200 miles in 6 months and used synthetic oil the last time. Have you stored your car away or something without driving it at all?

If it was stop and go driving, without many highway miles, I would still consider changing the oil and filter. Folks who are okay with extended OCI may not agree.

My commute is around 10 miles one way, with sometimes working from home as well ... 10 miles is also if I take HW route, inside it is 8 miles with stop and go traffic ... plus I use my wife Accord sometimes also for short trips ... never driven outside CA ...

Since your using Mobil 1 at the moment you can switch over to Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30. They recommend every change at 1 year or 15,000 miles whichever comes first. That way you can just change your oil once a year.

I would just leave it until 3000 miles or a year - especially if you are in CA, consider where you drive should be relatively clean.

I had a Honda that I change oil every 7500 miles or 6 month which comes LAST (meaning sometimes without oil change for 10 month). I owned the car for 11 years with 165k at the time I sold it and the engine is still running smooth as new. Plus, I use dino. oil. So, you should be fairly safe there.

I am planning to keep it 5W-30 every 6 months ... this will also help if there is any kind of oil burning issue ...

I have checked the stick myself multiple times, even though it is at a crazy place, i have been able to read it and did not find much drop, do you guys think the dealer check the oil level differently or they also check the dip stick?

My 2007 M35 owners manual states that "INFINITI recommends mineral based oils" (page 9-5). Why would anyone go against the manufactures recommendation and use a synthetic?

In this particular case, I think that Infiniti is a bit off-base, I guess.

However, I have also said in the past, that if you use a short enough OCI, then almost any good oil will do just fine.

You're fine with holding off on the oil change until at least 3,750 miles.

If your car is just sitting there parked, it's different than driving it every day for 6 months and still not hitting the 3K mark.

I know people (fanatics) with exotic cars and they change the oil once every 18 months, but they only put about a 1,000 miles a year on their cars and they sit in the garage most of the time.

Oil does not break down on its own, if that was the case, quarts of oil would have expiration dates on them. It does however start to collect condensation and possibly other contaminates from sitting in the engine and not being run up to temperature often.

At a minimum, I would say in your case, change your oil once a year or 3,750 miles, which ever one comes first.

I do drive almost every day, commute varies from 16 to 20 miles per day.In between sometimes it sits for a day or 2 while I am away traveling especially last 6 to 10 months I have been driving alot seriously ...
