Did you get your car tinted? I want to get my car tinted and wondering how it's done on M's - do they remove door panels and rear shelf? Are there any issues with TPMS, etc? I want to get 23% charcoal tint on my Diamond Graphite M - should look good.

Nothing special for the M as far as tint goes... and the TPMS ...not related at all.

Be sure to check your local laws as far as how dark you can go, otherwise you may end up being stopped by the local roving tax collectors who carry tint meters, and if yours fails due to being too dark.....expect a ticket requiring you to strip it off and pay for an inspection proving so.

Yeah, I am very well aware of the local Ontario laws, and that's why I won't go 15% all around, etc... I had my previous car without sunroof tinted 23% all around and it was great. I guess M's with sunroof can possibly be tinted a bit lower, maybe 20%, but I don't want that pitch black limo look, I want my tinted windows to blend nicely with the color of the car.

What's the right order of things - to tint first and then to have the car detailed or vice-versa?

Tint first, then give it about a day for the tints to settle and dont roll the windows down for the entire day. When I went to get my tints done there was water spots all over the car and windows. So save the detailing for last.

Found a great pic of M35x with 30% LLumar film - a bit too light for my taste, I am going with 23%.

Can you tell from the above pic if it has tint behind the 3rd brake or around it?

So it's doable... I know many pros tint around these lights, but in my opinion it is not an appealing look to a car.

I had mine done recently, and the "computer cut" goes around the brake light. I highly recommend finding a shop that uses a "computer cut" system. It prints out the tint in exactly the size of each window.

As long as you don't get cheap tint, you should have no trouble with tpms.

Mine is cut out looks perfect. Get a pro to do it and it'l be fine

As for the TPMS.

It's a myth. Tint... Even Metallic has never been proven to interfere with the radio signals sent from the TPMS. However, some shady dealerships may try and use this as an excuse to try and not cover it under warranty

When I had my tint's done, they tinted the whole thing...they didn't have to remove the rear deck for any reason. The tinter had special things that allowed him to do it. VERY HAPPY!

Hello,I went with Huper Optik on my 2004 and it was the best money I have spent of an aftermarket product. While more expensive, it truly reduces the heat in the car by a meaningful margin.

Also, when I first had my tint done, they cut out around the 3rd Brake Light and I hated the way it looked.I got them to replace the Rear Window film to cover the light.Cheers,ML

Got my car tinted today with 23% Sunguard film. The shop I went to used computer cuts and tinted behind the 3rd brake light.I will post pics later when I take some.

If you are from Toronto ON area and looking for a tint shop - I can definitely recommend the place.

professional tinters dont usually tint over the brake light for safety reason, unless you ask them to of course.

I don't know what to tell you... It might be your local regulations or something else...From what I understand professional tinters don't really care, it's how their software cut the film.

I contacted 3 very well known and reviewed places in Toronto area that install windows tint professionally and ask them for a quote and if they tint behind the 3rd brake light. The first place said they don't and also quoted me $100 more than the other two. The second place said they will need to see the car and the third place said they will check their computer software for film cutter and get back to me. The third place emailed me later that their film template cover the 3rd brake light and they will be happy to tint my car. And they did.
