So I get into my M and this little key and battery icon starts to appear on the LCD. It takes me two-three sessions (I'm 62...) to begin to realize that this is probably a reminder that I need to change the battery in my key fobs. I did it and its disappeared. Kool..!

Thats a sweet little feature - another reason why I call my car the event horizon, because if you've ever seen that movie - sometimes the car knows what is best for you!!!

Last summer, the little light was coming on but I ignored it. Then one day I missed a yellow light at a particularly long light on my commute home. So sitting there I turned the engine off. When the light turned green, I hit the button to start the car and nothing happened.

Thankfully I had the speed and dexterity to grab the key out of my pocket and throw it into the little key slot, hit the button and lay down some rubber before anyone started honking.. .which in northern Virginia is about 1 second.

Is it not true that the little port that you stick your key into charges the battery? That's what I was told by an Infiniti salesperson (I know, I know...).

Anyway, I ask because since I've had the car (about 4 months), my little light has come on twice, but each time, I've placed the key in the slot for a while (I normally drive at least 30 minutes anywhere I go) and by the time I get home, the light's off and doesn't come back on again. Am I setting myself up for failure?

The slot does not charge the battery.

The light goes off when you put the key in the slot, and the battery last for a while after the light starts coming on. I think the strength of the battery ebbs and flows... so you'll get the light sometimes, and not others.

Wow...thanks for the info. I'll be changing my battery tomorrow. I should have known that I knew more than the salesperson did.

That's funny about the salesperson telling you that the slot will charge the battery of the fob - they told me the same thing. Must be in some brochure somewhere from Infiniti...
