so just finished parting together and rebuilding my friends sr20det blacktop, put it in his 240sx and its not getting any spark. i checked to see if the coil packs are getting a 12 volt source and there not, i haven't checked for the signal yet because im waiting on my friend to get over here since that is a to person job. just wondering if you guys have any idea what it could be or where i should go from here. this is a list of things we had to get to make it a full motor set, ecu, cas, coil packs, nock sensor, o2 sensor, single cam maf, ignitor chip, and the full wiring, all these parts we bought were used but looked like they were in really good condition.

Could be your ignitor chip. Follow the coil packs path backwards. By this I mean find where the voltage cuts off at. You said there's no voltage at the coilpacks so work your way to the ignitor plug and see if you get voltage at the input of the ignitor plug.

Double check your grounds.

does the ignitor supply the 12 volt? i thought it just gives the signal 2 the coil packs

ok well i checked for signal and im getting it all the way to the coil packs so ima supply a 12 volt source from a switch and see if it works

I meant to check the wires that go BEFORE the ignitor. Some of those carry a 12V current.

Let me get this straight, in you op you said you did NOT have 12V to the coil packs. Now you do?

Sounds like the coil packs are bad then.

ok so i fix the spark problem and no ran into another problem theres no compression ive check the timing and the marks never line up again are they supposed to? so i redid i the timing and turned the motor over and still no compression and the marks never line up again after that but the cam seems to be in the right position. my chain has 3 marks one gold link for the crank sprocket and two black links for the cam sprockets i dont see how i can mess it up a third time. the only thing i can think of is wrong timing chain therefor bent or broke all my valves or the valves are bent 2 begin with but they looked fine when i put the motor 2gether and i took out all the intake valves and they weren't bent but i didn't check the exhaust valves so im lost help please

You need to get your terminology correct and learn how to use it. If you're not getting compression, timing will not help you. That has to do with your piston rings.

Did you verify this by using a compression tester? Or is just what you assume?

Because there really is no way to mess up the install of the timing. However if you have no compression, or very little, then you need to tear the engine apart and replace the rings.

well if timing is off the valves would be opening and closing at the wrong time therefor no compression or very little. the bottom end is rebuilt by me and this isnt the first motor ive rebuilt. so ima take the head off. i dont think its timing anymore. thinking valves maby or something like that

No, you said that you aligned the markings on the CAS and set the marks on the timing chain then popped in the CAS. If you really did do this, the valves would NOT! be opening that much far from their correct placement.

If the this is the case however, it is more than likely an issue with you NOT putting the blocked and pistons at TDC, then putting the head on top of it, ALSO!!! at TDC. Doing it wrong though, I would assume your valves might hit the piston?

Your excuse just does not make much sense.
