POssibly issue with 4wd going into 4wd L (( HELP ))

I have a 2000 pathfinder and I will be sitting dead still and have car into nuetral and go from 2wd to 4wd with no issue very nicly. Now from 4wd H going into nuetral fine but going back into high it will grind and also from there going into 4wd L it will ALso so what I do to get back into 4H or 2wd I turn car off and no grind any awnsers ....
