I have a 1991 Q45. I am a female who knows very little technically about cars so please bear with me as I try to explain my problem. While driving yesterday I noticed this horrible feeling in the rear like I had lost control and were on a big sheet of ice. The weather is NO where near freezing however the ground was slightly damp so I knew something was terribly wrong. Once I was able to get off the road I looked at the rear passenger side tire and it looked very crooked. I thought it was coming loose which has happened a long time ago but all the nuts were on tight. A closer look underneath revealed some kind of bar or brace that connects the tire to the underside of the car. This brace was completely broken in half causing the tire to wobble freely. Does anyone know the technical name for this part. It looks fairly simple to replace since it is only held on by two nuts, one in either end. I am trying to get an idea of how much this part will cost but I have no idea what it's called. I took a picture of it hopefully I can load it here. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

it is called a toe rod. It should be easy to replace. Find one aftermarket, junk yard, or new from nissan You will need a 17mm wrench/socket and 19mm wrench/socket. Get some penetrating fluid, spray it on, let is soak to help the nuts come off the bolts easier. You want to tighten the bolts with the same effort it took to get them off.

the lowest bar is the rear lower control armthe top front bar is the traction rodthe top rear bar is the rear upper control armthe rear bar (broken) is the toe arm.

The rear upper control arm is supposed to have a curve in it to allow it to clear the shock. (I am not familiar with the q45). Check that is not bent more than it should be.

best of luck

also if you are doing this yourself. Make sure you block/chalk the front wheels when you lift the rear tire up to change the toe rod, as the park brake and the transmission being in park may not prevent the car from rolling with one rear tire off the ground. bricks or wooden blocks will do the trick in front and behind the front tires.
