Service department at the dealer says I need new front tension rods for my 1999 Q45T, but I do not want to pay $300 for the parts from the dealer. I have searched the internet for these everywhere and can not find anything. Is it possible that they go by some other name? I would prefer to replace the part and not just the bushings. Does anyone have a site suggestion? Thanks!

Try Infiniti Of Scottsdale: http://www.infinitipartsusa.co...id=55.

You can get away with replacing the bushing if the metal isn't bent or damaged.

If you do this, be sure to orient the bushings properly, as they ARE directional.

Also, do NOT final torque the bolts until the car is under its own weight. Remember that!

It's a pretty easy job - a novice mechanic should be able to handle it, though the bolts can be very tricky sometimes.

Tension rods are a common wear item that can wear out every 4 years and 60,000 miles some like clockwork depending on braking frequency and road roughness. So far I've replaced 5 sets in 324,000 miles due for another set soon. ALREADY have them purchased just waiting.

Save money with inserts if you have a press.

The solid rubber and urethane inserts will last longer at the expense of vibration and harshness transmission to body............too much for me but some are numb.

Any machine shop should have it covered. Just need a hydraulic press and suitably sized drifts. Arrows point forward!

Remove & replaceRemove & re-install

Basically it means take them out and put them back (after servicing).
