De-sludge help and higher than normal boost???

So I pulled the valve cover in my newly aquirred s13 today to set the cam angle sensor only to find that the entire valvetrain was NASTY!!!! Obviously the previous owner did NOT regularly change the oil. Anyone have any ideas on getting it cleaned up shy of pulling the head? Also I hooked up my boost gauge and noticed i was boosting 11psi. I have no boost controler hooked up but am runnin a 3in downpipe, cat and exhaust. Could that be causing the higher than stock boost? also is it safe? It's a bone stock redtop even using the stock side mount.

The exhaust should not cause 11psi.Do you have a HKS Wastegate Actuator by chance?

You should be fine at 11psi, IMO.

I don't have an hks actuator. I was thinkin tho. how do I tell if someone put a t28 on the car?

Stock boost should be 11psi.And I would be careful "desludging" the engine if its going to stay in the car. You dont want anything agressive to put on the sludge or it has a chance that it will come off in large quanitities and that could clog your oil pickup.

Running off the wastegate spring it is 7psi yes. But stock s13 boost is 11 psi. The sr's have a boost solenoid that people usually dont swap into their cars when they get the swap done. That solenoid is for 11psi(stock boost)

soo as far as the sludge goes? no gonna worry about that now. Engine started knocking yesterday. Anyone have a cheap shortblock redtop layin around?
