When shifting from gear 1 to 2, I always seem to get a grinding feeling (from underneath the shifter), but all the other gears seems to shift smoothly.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with the transmission, cause my car has a below average km's (188,000 km's)

I just hate it so much, feels so disturbing, so is this normal, and if not, what can I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

mines like that too

probably your syncros. or change your transmission oil, at least it might make it shift a bit smoother

s***, thanks for the comment, yeah it pisses me off, feels like there's sand/miniature rock pebbles underneath the shifter. Sometime it just throws me off while driving.

Hmm, so syncros eh? Never heard of that before, but i'll search, and look into that.

just gotta deal with it unless you wanna pay out the arse

mine is a bit funky when downshifting into second when i reach the first stop sign on my block. rev matching or double clutching usually takes care of it though

is yours only making the grinding when shifting UP or both up and down

It always happens when shifting up. But sometimes, it also does it when shifting down from gear 3 to 2.

Depending on how old your transmission fluid is replacing it will definitely help. When I first start my car in the morning, shifting from 2nd to 3rd it usually isn't smooth but it only happens that one time. I don't know how to fix it.

transmission oil has to get warm. can't wait for subzero temps to hit and not able to get on first gear. well, I should do an oil change sometime anyways.

OP: Your mileage doesn't matter, the way the transmission was treated is what really matters. Definitely do a transmission oil change, may smooth it out a little bit.

188k = enough K to wreck the 1-2 syncro.

the 1-2 syncro gets the most use in your transmission, not common for them to die first.

Drive it till the trans falls out.

Also, match revs, and double clutch to bandaid that problem.

Or just power shift everywhere.

Your transmission is gonna blow up with your flywheel cutting through your floorboards and chopping your feet off. Then your slipping clutch will assplode in your face.

jk.

Do a transmission oil change. I used Redline 75W90, shifts like butter (except 1st gear).

Might as well do your diff fluid too.

Get a counter-weighted shift knob and some Redline 75W90 and your trans will shift like new

I had a similar problem with my transmission, my mechanic recommended using ATF fluid for automatic. Now it grinds less, but he said it was more of a band-aid fix tho.

you only use atf for automatic transmissions and gear oil for manual transmissions. yes atf has cleaning detergents in it.

The second gear synchro is always bad on 240s. Get a S14 trans and swap bellhousings.

i have the same problem, but mine only does it when the car is cold and on the first few shifts. once everything is warmed up its fine.

its on a s14 btw, i only get the weird feeling from 1 to 2, never from like 3 to 2 or anything like that

Replace the shifter bushing, and ring. Put the proper weight fluid in it, and stop complaining about your truck transmission's behind your turbo engines.
