New to this forum...

I bought a used 06 M35 sport about a year ago with 69k. Everything worked PERFECTRecently though, (88k)when I first start the car (cold or warm) the navigation system just cycles over and over and over. the screen flickers for a sec, the lights on the heater controls flash on/off and nothing responds to change (cant change the climate, radio or navigation)

Eventually it does turn on and everything works fine. But this could be 1 minute after starting or it could be 20 minutes later!!

I don't have a warranty nor do I care for dealer cost' to repair. Is this a common problem that people just deal with? Is there a fix or known process for repair?

I searched several pages of threads on here but couldn't find anything related(I am new to this so maybe I'm just lame)

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Open the glove box to access the NAV unit and eject the DVD NAV disk and inspect it for dust and or scratches.

Reinstall the NAV disk and see if that helps.

It could be the NAV unit just needs a reload to reset the laser aperature arm or it could mean that it is on it's way to death. Either way you'd never know without ejecting and reinstalling.

Post up if that helped! I'm curious. I made a back up disk for my NAV dvd and the disk was of poor quality and/or I didn't burn it right and I would get kinda the same thing. The NAV unit would freeze for sometimes like 2 minutes and I would need to eject and reinstall or shut down and restart the car to make it work again.

Hi guys

Update to the Nav system just got word from the dealer it is my nav unit going out....For all of you who might encounter this.Cost 1800$ they do have exchange unit now availabel for 400$ to 600$. Fortunately my extended warranty Premier level which is a level above Elite covers it fully 200$ deductable.Just an update to all my nav console would sometimes take anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes to become live so it was taking my entire console down air etc. everything no radio no CD nothing. Now fixed
