  Blow Through MAF Set-up

I'll be getting a z32 maf...and am considering doing a blow through set-up.
Any tips......how close/ far from the tb should it be, etc, etc? Advantages/ disadvantages?

Thanks for any help

I have never tried this my self, but i did lots of research on it some time ago.

It seemed to me like half way between IC and TB is about perfect on a normal FMIC setup. Then have the BOV pretty close to the IC.

what is your reasoning behind running it blow through?

1 disadvantage will be that the sensor itself will become coated in an oily residue very quickly. Dirty maf leads to loss of power.

Looks like I jumped the gun...I just went out and was looking under the hood...and I don't see how it will be possible to squeeze a maf and my bov on the cold side within the engine bay....so looks like the maf will have to stay on the intake side.
Mods...delete this thread if desired....or if it will help others keep it going

you can run your bov on the hotpipe, or intercooler as well, you do realize that right?

Well yeah, but you would still need to place it before the MAF or you defeat the whole purpose.

I do realize that, thanks.......
I just re-did my hot pipe when i put the td05h on...so i don't want to blow more money re-doing it again...plus my bov flange on the cold pipe is 2.5", and my hot side pipe is 2.25"....so more $$ there getting a new bov flange, and getting it welded on....so moving the bov to the hot pipe is out.

I may look outside the engine bay and see if I can just move the bov section of cold pipe between the ic and fender well...it may work. Is it not bad to have the bov outside the engine bay? Seems like I read that dust/ dirt can get past the seal on the bov piston not allowing it to seal properly. I think it would take a lot of dust/ dirt to cause that though..lol
In your above statement about the maf getting coated with oil doesn't apply if a catch can is used..right? My ic piping has never been oily

Just leave it on the intake side of the turbo. Why go to all the trouble of moving it for no gain in power?

I've pretty much come to that conclusion......no one has come up with any advantages to putting it on the cold pipe.....so i'll just leave it on the intake side

The advantage of having it on the cold side is that it can use its little hot wire to get a much more accurate intake air temp reading when its after the turbo. You don't lose any already metered air when the BOV goes off either.

Air temp isn't measured at the MAFS. Hotter air simply reads as a lower density of air and so less fuel is injected.

Having it on the cold side does NOT give a more accurate reading. It measures the MASS of the air, the temp has nothing to do with it. In fact sometimes you'll see vehicle with a MAFS ALSO using an IAT sensor so that they alter the ignition timing based on air temp. (SOHC KA for example)

Ah, I was unaware. I actually just went and read the wakopedia page on the hot wire MAFS. Now I know, and knowledge is power!! GI Joe!!!!

Mounting it after the intercooler would make it more accurate because the pressure of the air would be closer to that of the air entering the combustion chambers.

Edit: was unaware of that addition to the filter. Now I know, and knowledge is power!! GI Joe!!!!

LMAO, yea Greg and the guys over at ghey-o-pedia had a go round.

Long story short, we gave them a SHIZ TON of info, and they wouldn't let us reference NICO as the source of the info, so we pulled it off, and they put it back up, claiming it was theirs now. So Greg told them to EAD.

looks kinda goofy to me when u have a turbo compressor with the common 4" inlet, sleeved down to the 3" afm. Much cleaner in the cold pipe imo.
Look up hypergear test/drift car... dynos & video on their site of a 400+hp CA18 in action.
I recall him splitting one z32 afm ~24psi tho, but looks to me like the 'sensor' part of the afm could carefull be cutaway/extracted and affixed (screw/rivet/epoxy) onto a metal pipe if needed.

CA18 corolla guy link I posted in your other thread, is up and running with a $30 ebay chip (for his N60 afm/550s). You may be interested, check it out

Yea, you can keep your exploding MAFS's and intake restrictions. I'll stick to my nice speed density standalone.

Sometimes there's just not room for the AFM before the turbo (would get way to close to the turbo if it was done).

Sometimes AFMs get bad readings if you have turbo surge problems when you have it on the intake side..

If you have the the AFM on the cold side of the IC you can still drive if you blow a hose on the hot side.

No open BOV problems.

and $30 mail-order tunes ?
Most of us run oe electronics, so a chip & afm is a pretty attractive channel to take your CA18 from zero to hero... for such a minimal investment of time & money = quick & dirty.

Yeah, but speed-density is the BOMB.COM Fo' reelz. I would know (not right now, but previously and in the future... you know what I mean).
