Hi guys,

I own a 2001 Frontier SC 4x4. The automatic transmission has issues engaging in reverse, first and second. Three and four won't engage at all. The gears that work will slip in and out of neutral, and on some occasions, will stall the engine unless I shift into park or neutral. I changed the transmission filter and had 2 brass washers come out of the filter. One was in good shape and the other had heavy wear on it

Has anybody else had this issue? I was thinking it may be the torque converter, but I don't want to start throwing parts at it. The washers want me to believe that it is more.

Also,if this requires me to get a new transmission, I have been thinking of swapping in a manual. Has anybody had an experience with this type of mod?

Thanks for any posts back.TonyZ-wing

No one has any comments??

I was as least expecting a "you're screwed" answer.

Don't know much about these but do tell what you find. I want to get a Frontier with auto because of 2 ruptured disk in my back and the clutch around town sucks in the hills of Upstate SC.

Well, It turned out to be a bad Trans, Torque converter, and planetary gears. Big $$$. 2500+, sucks but I love my truck. I wish I had the time to put in the manual....oh well.

This is my second torque converter, what the hell Nissan. I only have 89K on a 2001. That should not be happening.

That is so messed up, how could every thing be bad? hmmm. Did you neglect the fluid? I'm sorry, but something is just fishy about that.
