Traffic deaths are lower than they have been since the 1920s.

The latest statistics (from 2008) are 13 deaths per 100,000 people which is 9% lower than the figures from 2007.The articles suggests contributing factors of education, police presence and enforcement, and fewer miles driven. What's your opinion? Do you believe it is because of these factors or something completely different?

I don't know about police presence helping lower traffic deaths, but driving less miles definitely helps.Less driving, less chance of accidents.

I'm glad to hear it's declining though! It could also be the safer cars that are being put out.

I equate it here with less foreign people on the road.

Since the economy tanked, I've seen alot less DWAs and FOBs around.

I think it's a combination of several factors including

1. better designed cars (for crash protection)2. The recession (less freight moving, higher than normal unemployment)3. high gas prices 4. considerably tougher drunk driving laws and5. Hulk Hogan's bratty kid was in jail for part of the year.
