i did the knock sensor and harness replacement, cleaned the plenumn and throttle body, ohm checked the coils and replaced the plugs. everything runs fine however when i shift gears in my 97 q from park to drive, the selector will be in drive then 2 sec later the drivetrain preloads heavily. possibly u joints? rear strut mounts? I cant find replacement u joints anywhere, any help would be apprecicated. thanks nico

I am absolutely NO transmission expert, but if it's a genuine TWO SECONDS from shift to hard engage, I'd suspect the transmission itself or a sensor therein - no U-joints or mounts are going to give that long a delay, just create slop. No CEL? If not, perhaps an internal issue with the transmission - does it do this both cold and hot? More conditions please....laggy shifts between other gears, or just P to D?

first of all thank you for your response, the car is a lilttle laggy between shifts at WOT. I have no CEL at all, and the drivetrain is load is felt in every gear from gear selector. When engine temperature is cold it seems to be ALOT worse than when the vehicle has warmed up. thank you again

Probably just have a coolant leak that someone improperly bled when refilling, could be a million things.

You need to make your own topic and put a list of questions on there, where people can help you out. Click "New Topic" when looking at the thread list.

OP: I wish I could be of more help, but transmissions are the only part of the car I don't work on and pay others to do.
