93 240 wiring problem with lights

okay the deal is as soon as i connect the batter brake lights come on and stay on constantly. headlights come up but wont come on, dash lights wont come on either. i don't think its running lights cause the fronts dont come on either but it seems the back of the car is always on and the front is always off lol. i checked the two brake switches and if i unplug the one on the left the lights go off and wont come on. any help on this would be great, i just got this car for 500 and its really clean except the lighting issue.
