So I'm gonna get a fat tax return this year because I bought a house and had a kid. I realize tax returns are still a ways off but I like to plan ahead. I keep coming back to 16 inch wheels. I want 16s because I think it is age appropriate for the 240sx. I want 16x9 but I might settle for as small as 16x8... If it is a nice wheel. I am on a budget... I really don't want to pay more than 300 a piece... at least not much more. The problem with this budget is that I find nothing around the 300 dollar range. To be honest I really like the sportmax 002 but I want a higher quality wheel. Plus it is going to have to be 5 lug because I will be doing the conversion. I want a stepped lip... but I would settle for a flat lip or concave if the wheel looks good. (as with all s-cars I want a low offset... just enough to pull and roll a little) I like mesh wheels... but my wife doesn't and, like a dumb highschool-er, I still want my car to impress her.

Please help!

Actually they have lots of those for sale used on rbwheels... the oldschool ones. But I don't think I will go that route...

congrats on the purchase and the kid, but here's an idea, use the tax money to improve your house and get some necessities for your kid. maybe even put it away as a rainy day fund or start a college fund. not budgeting money and spending unnecessarily is what caused so many people to lose their homes and contribute to the downfall of our economy.

i've been a home owner for a year and a half now. while i have enough money to swap just about any engine into my car that i wish, or have a perfect suspension set-up with the baddest wheels ever, i choose to put my money towards little things here and there and save the majority of my money for home improvements and making sure that if things go sour job-wise, i can afford my bills for a few months if i can't find another job right away.

not trying to bring you down or anything, but in your situation, unless you have a stupid amount of money in the bank, having a cool car should really be one of the last things on your mind at this point in your life.

You are assuming the OP is an irresponsible turd cause he wants to by some wheels? he's going to get eight grand plus all his interest back so depending when he bought the house he might be getting back 15 large and wants to spend 15 hunge on some wheels. Dude , thats spending ten percent on himself, relax let him enjoy his toy.

I respect the words

'age appropriate'

thats dope. you can also email yokota and ask him to import you some 16's from japan, or go over to the corolla forums and buy used mesh wheels.

i wasn't trying to come off harsh or call him anything. if i came off that way i apologize, so slow your role there. i was just offering some suggestions on how to spend the money wisely while at the same time investing in the future of his new family. i have a room mate that spends his money on cars, he's up to three and keeps dumping money into them. rent went up and now he's scrambling for money. when he's on his own, i know he's going to end up selling at least one car and his house or apartment will end up being a dump because he's not mature enough to handle that kind of responsibility. at the rate he's going i can foresee his girl leaving him. i'm not saying the op is like that, hell i don't know anything about him. but some times it helps to have a different viewpoint to the situation.

the majority of posters in here are teenagers still living with their parents. money isn't as important to them at this point in their lives, it's disposable. what's to say, i hope nothing does, something unforeseen happens? money that got spent unnecessarily is no longer available to deal with it. houses are unpredictable, and so are kids.

op, i'm not telling you to do anything, nor am i tying to say anything about who you are. i'm just trying to suggest other, better options for that money. i mean your high budget is 1200, then shipping, so let's say 1500. now you need tires, on the cheap side another 500 after all is said and done. now we're up to 2g's. you also mentioned going 5 lug. getting used hubs and rotors, let's call it another 300 (idk what it really would be). 2300. you don't like the ride height, let's get some megan coils at 900. need some ruca's at least, maybe another 150. i never figured for the initial alignment and you're going to need a new one. now you're over double your initial budget. i mean do it if you wish, i'm not here to tell anyone what to do or argue with anyone, just trying to offer a viewpoint from a different set of eyes. take it all with a grain of salt, or don't and trash talk me, i don't care. just do it responsibly, you have a lot more on your plate than the teenagers do.

I'd say these wheels are almost perfect for what you want. The only problem: They only come in 4 lug, I believe. But whats the point in going 5 lug if you already found the perfect wheel for you in 4x114.3?

Yeah, If I were interested in sticking with 16's, I'd pick some up for sure. With 16's you can keep pretty tall sidewall tires for better ride quality.

But I have my mind set on staggering 17's & 18's instead...

Well... I dunno about all this "we'll show support either way" stuff, because if you come back all excited about some wack wheel, I'm gonna let you know it's wack... lol Choose wisely.

Numbnuts, no offense taken. And don't worry about it... My wife and I are pretty good with money... we did the whole Dave Ramsey deal and we should be debt free in about 4 months–besides the house. Not saying I am rich or anything but I am responsible with my money. I already have money put away for new tires (my current tires don't have much life left anyway)... I figure it would be better to get them after the new wheels so I don't have to buy twice. I need new shocks and struts right now anyway... (also have money set aside for that) so I figure I will just put that money toward coils. As for the suspension components... I have the self control to keep my ride height high until I can budget in those pieces. (actually I am considering keeping my ride height high anyway... I want coils for the adjustability but I can't bare the thought of crushing my frame on speed bumps– love the looks of 240s that do have scraped up underbodies tho!)

The 5-lug swap is the only thing I can't really justify right now... that would be a splurge. The main reason I want 5 lug is for the z32 bake swap as a future upgrade... but it may be so far ahead that I should just get 4 luggers for now...

Simmode- I don't know anything about miro... do they make quality products? I want the wheels to be pretty light and strong. Like I said about sportmax... I like their wheels but I want higher quality... how does miro compare to sportmax? They sure as hell look good!

The only thing I know about Miro is that they sell them at Enjuku and they are big in the VW circles... But I can't see how they'd possibly be any lower quality than Sportmaxx... I mean, c'mon... Sportmaxx is pretty much the bottom of the barrell...

They seem legit...http://www.mirowheels.com/

right on. in that case, more power to you, you're worlds ahead of most people twice our age lol. as far as the 5-lug thing, you can get z32 rotors that are already pre-drilled to work with 4 lug or you can have some drilled for you at a machine shop, or even do them yourself. in the meantime, keep an eye out for someone parting out a 5-lug s14 and grab the hubs. they go quick so once you see them, you have to jump on them right away.

OP, if i were you i would go with 15's...work equip series...they are right on anything and can be had in many diff offsets. 16's are hard to find in decent offset and or good price/namebrand.kalypso had a good point email yokota, i've seen him say he can get his hands on pretty much whatever.and visit club4ag.com the classified section is always full of smaller diameter wheels
