Ok i changed the wiring on the fans to another source besides the fuel pump. The fans are reversable, i dunno what brand they are(s style blades). . . . .i bought a combo rad+fans from CXRacing. I might need to bleed it again, also the thermstat is brand new from a 300ZX. I am using the stock temp gauge as a reference(i know, i know-i should have an aftermarket gauge to monitor temps. . . . .but im a cheap azz LOL). I know for sure that its getting too hot cause the ECU is going into limp mode, dumping fuel and pulling timing.Darius wrote:These are dumb questions, but here goes:
Are your fans pullers or pushers or "interchangeable" by reversing the wiring?
Are you running the fans off of a relay or directly from fuel pump fuse power?
What brand name are the fans?
I am using a mixture of about 65/35 water and coolant plus water wetter. Im pretty sure that the fans are wired correctly cause the first time i wired them up i wasnt getting any airflow behind the fans till i switched the leads. I originally bought the radiator with the fans and an aluminum shround but I didnt end up using the shroud cause it wouldnt fit(the fans were fitting the pullies). I have no idea what kind of condition that the water pump is in, do you think that its bad?Darius wrote:Ok sounds good so far. Now for round 2 of questions
Are you running a 50/50 mix of coolant and water?
Are you sure the fans are wired properly and that they are pulling air through the radiator as opposed to trying to push it back out the front of the car when it is moving?
Are the fan shrouds sealed against the radiator fins or is there a gap? Any gap will allow air to sneak in through the sides as opposed to going through the radiator. (i.e. path of least resistance)
Do you know the condition of the water pump? Have you taken it off to see if the blades are in tact?

The cars runs great when its cold and at temperature. It only overheats whenever im on the highway. . . . .it creeps up slow until it gets hot. Then the backfiring, bad gas mileage, and breaking up in boost begins. Is there any way that I can check if the water pump is working as it should without taking it off?RustspecS13 wrote:Id pull codes first, limp mode doesn't mean running hot is the cause. But bad tuning (aka limp mode maps) can cause you to run hot too.

make sure you FULLY bleed that thing...it took a good 30-45mins of bleeding coolant for all the air bubbles to come out of my motor.Funktown240 wrote:

if you're running the stock intake manifold I believe there is alittle screw on there somewhere. but running without the cap is quicker IMOFunktown240 wrote:Ok ill give it another shot, is there any bleeder screw on the cooling system to make it a lil easier?
Thats what i was thinking, I dont have a fan controller also. The fans are always on. . . . . .Im going to bleed the cooling system again and see if it helps. If that doesnt work then im going to mount the fans on the front of the radiator.boosted98gst wrote: Just an idea, when I bought my 240 it had the same cx radiator and 2 12"fan's and was having issues with running warm. The cheap china fans could not keep up, I bet you anything yours are the same s blade type that mine came with. If you can swap out fans and are you using a fan controller?
dont move the fans to the front. that will only make things worse. like people are saying1) make sure your coolant is bled right2) make sure your fans are pulling heat off the radiator3) if 1 and 2 are good, your fans aren't doing their job.. get new ones.Funktown240 wrote:

The fans are not the problem. . . . .I can feel the air moving through the radiator. Either the thermostat is stuck or the water pump is bad, Im going to check it out on Wednesday. I destroyed the stock clutch fan and ruined my S14 radiator when I was testing out my suspension and got a little too excited drifting and s***. So im thinking that I f***ed up the pump as well.Darius wrote:The fans are garbage, replace them. See gawdzilla's post above.
FYI, pushers are less efficient than pullers. You probably just got a better seal on the shrouds and they seemed to work a little better than the previous setup.
Just do yourself a favor and spring for some new ones. Cooling issues suck a**.
