I have no idea why but the sound on my computer isn't working. I hooked my speakers up to my laptop and they worked just fine, so I know my speakers aren't bad. When I went into my control panel and clicked on audio and sound devices, it says no device detected but my speaker are hooked up and turned on Does anyone know why it might be doing this. I have Windows XP BTW.

Sounds like a driver issue. Try re-installing the driver.

Since it's a laptop, check the laptop manufacturer's website for updated driver downloads.

It's not a laptop, I said I hooked my speakers up to my laptop just to make sure that they weren't the problem.

A driver is basically instructions for your computer so it can communicate with what ever you are trying to install. In your case it will allow you PC to create the right signal so it can make sound with your speakers.

I install my drivers by double-clicking the file once I finish downloading it.

You need to figure out what kind of sound hardware you have first off. Go Start > Run, and type "dxdiag" then go to the Audio tab (you can tell it no if it asks to access the internet). The Audio tab will show info about your sound hardware ("Device") and it's Drivers...including how new the driver version you're running is.

From there, you can type or copy and paste the device name into Google and see what comes up. I have Soundmax HD Audio on my work machine, so I just google "Soundmax HD Audio driver" and a bunch of results turn up. Find a link to a newer version (either by date or version number) than the one you have and give it a try.
