1997 Maxima SE factory Bose Stereo removal

Need to remove my factory, stock Bose CD/Cassette player from a 1997 Maxima SE. Don't know where to start and don't want to break any of the plastic.

Also, any opinions about replacing with same radio or should I go with aftermarket? I am not a really big audiophile and kind of like the sound and looks of the stock Bose. Thought it might be less expensive and easier to replace with same unit.

Any ideas where to locate these units for decent price?

Thanks for any help. Awesome web site. Love my Nissans!

I had a similar problem recently when the cassette player (which I use to play my Sirius Stiletto 2) in my 95 SE went. To remove and replace the Bose head unit without breaking anything, I paid a few bucks and got the step by step procedure from Carstereohelp.com. It was well worth it.

I found a Bose head unit from a (wrecked) 98 Pathfinder about a 1/2 hour drive from me. It was a direct swap both mechanically and electrically, and I got it for for $60. It took me about an hour to swap it out. But after doing it once, it would take only half that time if I ever had to do it again.

Shop around. You should be able to find used Bose head units for around $100.

For year-specific removal instructions, "carstereohelp.com" is the best - include text and images. They used to give it for free, then started charging about $6 a couple of years ago but now it's down to a couple of bucks (more like a donation). They also repair head units from Bose/Clarion.

But info from "moodym.com" is free so if it works, why not.
