That cat back will not work, but depending on the price it may be worth it just to get the muffler.

hey thanks for the quick reply! but when i mean catback im talking like ebay catback where they all look the same for every car no matter what i've searched a few different cars and they all have the same size piping no matter what?! sorry for the possibly dumb question but i've never messed with any of the exhaust systems on any of my nissans

Also: could i get one made for the 4th gen? or could someone point me in the right direction to where i could a complete system for my specific max?

It won't be a straight bolt-on affair, either way.

I wouldn't go with an Accord setup anyway, it'll make your VG sound absolutely horrible and farty. You need to get something designed for a V6.

The best bet is not to buy a kit at all, but to find a muffler shop and hand-pick your components (muffler, resonator) and ask them to custom fab an exhaust using those parts. Won't cost any more than a kit, but you'll have more control over what goes into the setup.

A muffler for a 4th gen will sound a lot better on the VG than an accord muffler will. The VG can sound fantastic when done right, but can also sound absolutely TERRIBLE when done wrong.

Hey so i think im just going to get a replacement piping kit with a remus mufflerpbut i want to delete the cat with a strait flow pipe but on one end its angled more and one end would sit flush with the piping so how would i go about bolting that up? Heres a pic so you can see what im talking about (i chose the altima one bc its the same lenght as my cat but its the same design no matter what) let me know what you guys think. Thank

A test pipe won't help your performance any. The factory cat on these is pretty good, unless it's clogged. If yours is clogged, you can buy a high flow cat for about $100.

As for your 3rd gen Maxima cat-back, you can get a complete bolt-on set up from Warpspeed and you can install it yourself.

A muffler shop can usually custom fab something for a couple hundred. It depends on the pipe you want and the muffler.

A cat-back gets you very little in performance gains on these cars. If yours is rusted, then you should replace it. Otherwise, start with a y-pipe.

The biggest gain in performance is with an aftermarket y-pipe. Most people buy the pipe and sometimes all the way back from Warpspeed.

I have a GReddy cat-back and a Cattman y-pipe. I did the y-pipe first and I could actually notice the gains. The cat back had little to no effect. This is pretty much the same on VE and VG engines.

My only advice on an exhaust for these cars is to get a resonator. Without it, the inside is annoying and loud.
