I'm wanting to pick up a second Nvidia GTX 260 for my PC. The problem is that this card is MASSIVE, and I honestly don't think there's room for the top card to get good airflow with the second card installed. The PCIE x16 slots are really close together, with the top card reaching down to the top edge of the lower slot.

This is the motherboard I'm working with:http://www.newegg.com/Product/...31371

I'll end up in a situation like this (different motherboard but same PCIE spacing):http://imgur.com/ZNTxJ.jpg

Am I safe cramming my cards together like this?

Can you get a Thermaltake VGA cooler to fit on the top card?http://www.thermalright.com/ne....html

You can flip it so the heat sink is between the card and CPU, but will you have enough clearence between it and the CPU once you add the the required 120mm fan on top of the heat sink.

Just make sure you have a good fan blowing down through the cards...I'm running 2 factory cooled slightly overclocked 4870's now and they are almost touching. I just have a big-a** fan right above them.

Good to hear. This case has pretty go airflow (far superior to my old case, which was horrible) so I think I should be safe. I did notice upon closer inspection that these cards actually have their own exhaust ports at the rear of the case since they're double-fat, so that makes me feel a lot more comfortable about this, too.

How do you like the 4870s? When I was considering building this machine myself (it's an Asus store model) I was intending to go ATI.

Your concern is understandable, but not neccessary.

Most motherboard's have the cards actaully touching each other. Luckily the fans on the usually draw from both sides and exhaust from the rear. This allows them to somewhat feed each other.

Sweet. Two 260s should be plenty for me for now. I'd love 295s...two of those could buy most of my computer, though.

Yeah, they are rediculously expensive. it's funny, for the time being they are going in to a system based off the AMD x6000.. LOL...

Can you say Processor Limitation!
