do u prep items aswell ?

I frequently get the question of what do I do before i powder coat parts do I clean the parts? do i media blast? is there any other process?

Let me take you guys through the steps of what you pay for when you drop your wheels off at LPC.

OK so my customer stopped by to drop his wheels off and picked his color which was Moondust Orange over Ink Black so here the process step by step.

Heres my costumers wheels when he dropped them off. he bought them from some one else and it looks like they used an automotive spray paint on the wheels. Not that i got anything against rattle canning your wheels i actually have seen some that came out pretty good but the longevity is not all that great but as for these wheels they came out looking like CRAP!

First thing we do is wash the wheel off and get any dirt or grease off.
We then cut the valve stem off and remove any weights.

Once cleaned we then submerge the wheels in a chemical stripper for 15 to 30 minutes to remove any rattle can or factory paints that are on the wheel.

your end results is a clean bare metal wheel and notice that before the crappy paint job made the spokes look like the the metal under the paint was scraped or damage well that is not the case.

Now that the wheels are cleaned and bare metal we can now media blast the wheels to give it a slight profile. A light media blast profile will help the powder bond to the metal once cured.(Before we media blast we inspect the wheel for any minor curb rash that need to be fixed but with these wheels that was not the case)

As you can now see in the picture the wheel on the left is one that just came out of the chemical stripper and the one on the right was media blasted.

Last step before we coat we spray an Iron Phosphate coat which will protect the metal from rusting and also improves the powder bonding to the metal and making it even stronger.

OK we are now ready to shoot the wheel.

Since this is a two stage coating we first shoot the ink black powder.

off to the oven it goes to flow out and cure

Once the ink black cures and cools off we can then repeat the same process with the moon dust orange which is a clear coat with a color changing flake in it.

I cant get the pics to come out as good since this color changes orange , red , green , gold pics do not do it justice but here is the final results

So there you have it these are the steps we take to give you a quality powder coating job in the end. This is what you pay for and this is how it is done by the Pro's.

So i hope this helps and i hope this clears any questions for any of you guys who want to get your wheels or any parts coated at LPC.

the color is a silver base with a blue topcoat.
shipped to 11951
email: HyWarp161@yahoo.com

the parts where coated by the last nico pc who took 5 months and did a crap job. here are pics of parts.
http://s223.photobucket.com/al...ating/
the pics show the color i want and his screwups. i spent alot of time smoothing out the casting marks on the valve cover, but never got a chance to do the timing cover.

5 MONTHS wow that is a bit of time but im sure there was a good reason why it took him that long? Our turn around time is 5 to 6 days from the day the parts are dropped of by our customers or the day they arrive from shipping.

I see some of the defects you are speaking of we can take care of that when we redo them with no problem.

As far as colors go may i suggest a few options for you.

I know exactly what company he got the colors from but just to let you know my distributors has the most vibrant and colorful powders in the market.

please take some time and go through our color samples in our website.

the color you want is a candy blue with a silver base.

may i suggest Peka Blue over Alien Silver

Or you can do Peka Blue over Super Chrome

these are just two examples of the various candy blues we have, again feel free to browse our color charts on our site.

I will send you a qoute tomorrow since im about to shut down for the night so please bare with me ok?

thanks

We do require that all hardware must be taken off the calipers before sending them in or dropping them off.

Pistons , Boots , Bleeders , ect. Basicaly everything that is not to be coated must be off the calipers or any parts that have gaskets, rubber boots or plugs or plastic parts that cannot hold the temps of the oven.

Hope this helps

HOLY COW! That is some amazing looking product you got there, LPC.

I need to get some money together and send you my wheels to be powdercoated for my R33 GT-R.

What's the average price of doing wheels in this color?

Or maybe a nice gunmetal?

Wheel dimensions are 18X9 or 9.5J. (The wheels were on the car when I bought it.)

Do you also replace the valve stems after coating?

We dont replace the valve stems since 9 times out of 10 when you get your tires mounted back on they will put new valve stems on for you.

If you want to keep your stems i would suggest having the shop take them off for you and you hold on to them.

Is there a pm system here on NICO? if not let me have your email and i will send you a qoute.

Hmmm its seems the cat is out of the bag lol ok let me explain whats going on and you guys here at NICO will be the first to know about it.

We at LPC this winter will be introducing HydroGraphics/ Image Fusion for our customers.

HydroGraphics is a process where a film pattern is placed in a water tank and when the special activator is applied the film dissolves but leaves the ink pattern stable in the water.

The part is then prepped and coated ( powder coated for metal parts and automotive paint for plastics) with a base coat. When the part is sumberged in the tank the ink actually fuses into the base coat becoming part of the base coat. the end process is done with a clear coat on top for a shiny protective finish.

Heres some teaser pics of what the carbon fiber looks like.

To top it off you can coat over the carbon fiber with a candy color and have any color carbon fiber you can imagine.

Ok so now i really let the cat out of the bag but please bare with me.We allready signed the contracts with the major distributors that make the film and activator and we are now waiting on some equipment that should be coming in shortly so i will keep every one up to date once we are up and running with the new process which wont be too long.
