  Hit rear bumper in garage

I can't believe it ... drove my car home from the dealer a few weeks ago, and parked it head-first n the garage. Never drove it afterwards b/c I bought this as a winter vehicle and have a summer car.

Long story short, I decided to take the vehicle out and back it in so that front is facing the garage door, and connected a trickle charge to the battery (electrical outlet is toward front of my garage). Don't you know that while backing up at not even 1 MPH, I hit my rear bumber on a wood picnic table, and now I have a dent in the crease as the bumber flows upward to the hatch.

UGH!!!!! Now I'll take it to a body shop and see if they can fix this (it's right on the crease of the bumber, which might make it harder.)

I am disappointed in the quality of the bumber. I was just nudging the car backward very, very slowly, listening to the beeps from the rear. Can't believe such a move would have creased the edge of the bumper!!

You can never be too careful I guess.

Wow, even with backup sensors.

Do you have the rear view camera too?

Sorry to hear about your mishap.

The rearward visibility in the EX is definitely a design faux pas. The proximity sensors are far from accurate, especially where there's not a lot of surface area (like the picnic table in your case).

I know this doesn't help you but, AVM Rocks!!!

Hi ...no I don't have AWM, but I guess it's worth it (I would not be visiting the auto body shop if I had it.) But to tell you the truth, I found the AWM distracting. I guess I am used to just looking back and was never quite sure when looking at the monitor what the position of the car was. I probably would have gotten used it .

I don't think you can drive 1mph with it. LOL Anyways. The reason I think it did more damage because there isn't much surface on the picnic table. So if we go by that you put all the pressure/weigth on a smaller point. If you hit a bigger flat surface the outcome would of been different. Also depends what part of the bumper youhit. If you hit the part where the support is behind the bumper or hit it where isn't.

Hope they'll fix it for you and will look as good as new. You might be better off just to buy a bumper cover instead of the fixing.

Don't feel bad. My wife puts enough dings and a deep scratch in our rear bumper when loading and unloading our baby stroller.

I am now hoping some idiot runs into me so I can re-paint the whole rear bumper.

But unfortunately, your wife will just ding and scratch it all over again right after.

sorry about that dude

in regard of the bad quality bumpers are made from these days
its due to the fact of one thing : make the car lighter then you wouldn't need a V8 just in like old american cars ( big fan of the chevy impala 69)
then consume alot of fuel every thing now is made either of aluminum and other light materials or for envirmental reasons

Hey Moe ....

My first car was a 1069 Impala 2 Door coupe with the 396 V8 Boy that thing moved. Bought it for 700 put in about 500 and sold it in 1977 for 800!
Man that car had balls but sucked gas!! (Of course gas back then was only 1.00 a gallon!! I remember putting in Sunoco premium ... back then we could get 97.5, 95 and then lowly 93 octane in the Northeast.

Ah, the good 'ol days!
