06 qx56 nav and vid bypass

I know this has problaby been asked a million times.... but does anyone know how to watch dvd's on the front screen as well as input addresses while driving in an 06 qx56? My boss wants these features in his truck. I have already tried interupting the speed sense wire at the nav unit under the passenger seat with no luck. I did the same thing on his 03 fx45 and it worked fine, but not on the qx. Thank you for any help.

Welcome to the Armada/QX56 Forum! Glad to have you here as a new member of NICOclub!

YES, I know how to perform this mod, I actually did just that on my '04 QX56 that had the factory DVD player and Navigation.

You need to do a few things....

- order a switch unit from TV and Nav 2 Go. This allows you to utilize your front Navigation screen with traditional Audio/Video cables.

- You then connect the unit to the back of your Navigation DVD rom drive (located under the passenger seat). This will now allow you connect any video source to your Navigation screen.

- Last step is to locate the Video feed (using service manual) going from your DVD player to the rear screen (located in the center console area) and split the feed so that you may connect one end of your Audio Video cables. The other end of your Audio/Video cables will connect to the TVandNav2Go unit under your passenger seat.

I know that is a lot to digest, but that is how it is done, and it works!!!

tvandnav2go.com

or an alternative device can also be obtained from avelectronic.com

Both do a good job of switching the video. Last I checked, the options available were different so choose based on your needs.

INFINTI QX56 2004-2007 NAVIGATION INTERFACE NI24HW
INFINTI QX56 2004-2007 navigation interface lets you add DVD or any other video source to your factory navigation screen

Detailed Description

Connect A Video Input Such As A DVD Player, TV Tuner, Reverse Backup Camera, Video Game Console, iPod Video or Other A/V Source To Your INFINITI OEM Navigation Screen. NavTool Video Modules Are Easy To Install, Activated For Video In Motion And Are Completely Plug & Play.

Product Overview:

100% PLUG & PLAY no wire cutting required. The NavTool converter comes with a vehicle specific harness that eliminates the need for cutting or making any kind of modification to your factory setup. The harnesses are made using factory connectors to insure 100% compatibility and reliability.

NavTool video module works with all INFINITI vehicles. NavTool video module is the easiest way to interface a video source such as a DVD Player, TV Tuner, Back-up Camera, iPod Video, Video Game Console, PC with composite output or other video source directly to your INFINITI OEM Navigation screen. NavTool features dual composite video inputs, one of which can be activated automatically when shifting the vehicle into reverse, usually used with a back-up camera.

NavTool is an externally wired plug and play video interface that is installed inline of the navigation computer in your INFINITI vehicle and navigation screen. It works simply by interrupting the video signal from your navigation computer when you flip a toggle switch or activate 12V on the reverse camera line. When this occurs the navigation system video image will be replaced by the video input that is connected to the NavTool module.

Navtool is a video only input interface module, which means an FM modulator, FM transmitter or an auxiliary audio input interface adapter needs to be used to connect the audio signal from your external AV source to your audio system, if your vehicle does not have an auxiliary input already available. NavTool is video-in-motion enabled, so the video image will stay on the screen even with the car in motion, however we do not recommend doing this.

The unit comes with easy to understand instructions, especially tailored to your specific vehicle. Make, model and year.

The unit is made using the highest quality material and comes in a metal case to prevent any kind video noise. The unit uses a video chip instead of relays like similar models. A relay is a moving part which adds to its unreliability while the chip is a solid state relay that has no moving parts.

All our video interfaces come with 2 video input, video 1 is dedicated for any video source, video 2 is dedicated for back up camera. When you put your car in reverse screen you will automatically see reverse camera on your navigation screen (back-up camera over rides either DVD or navigation)

You will need an additional DVD player, back-up camera or PS2/XBOX to display your video on your screen. Sound is processed thru wired or wireless fm modulator. Auxiliary sound input interface may also be available depending on the make and model of your car.

Vehicle Specific Installation Information:

THIS INTERFACE MUST BE CONNECTED DIRECTLY BEHIND LCD SCREEN.

This kit includes the NavTool module and a plug and play wiring harness that plugs into the navigation screen. You can view a photo of the wiring harness on top of this page.

Simply plug the vehicles OEM wiring harness into one end of the wiring harness provided with the NavTool module, then plug the other end of the NavTool harness into the location where the vehicles wiring harness was. Then connect 12V power, ground, and backup camera wire if installing back-up camera. The installation is really that simple. Since the unit is plug and play and only requires extra wiring for 12V and ground, it will not void your vehicles factory warranty in most cases.

Please note that NavTool unit works with any NTSC and PAL devices.

When using this product please BE AWARE that watching moving images on the screen visible by the driver of the vehicle is illegal and could lead to a citation, death, accident, please obey local laws and don't watch TV while you drive.
