I've asked around on a few other "spring" threads but haven't gotten an answer. Has anyone dropped there M45 with Tein HT's? I only find the part number for the M35. Does anybody have any info regarding this? Are people just using the M35 springs? I know eibach is an option but wanted to keep the drop subtle since there are no caster/camber plates to correct the alignment. What springs are you guys using do lower the M45's? Thanks!

Here is a idea. Why not just call Tein and find out if it's ok? Besides the M45 being a hundred pounds more in the front I don't know of any differences. I don't even know if factory springs differentiate between the M45 & M35.

I spoke to technical support at Tein regarding the lowering springs for the M35 as contrasted with the M45.

He said the perches and everything is the same but the spring rate would definetly have to be higher for the m45. Because of budget cuts don't look for HT's for M45 anytime soon from Tein. Sorry.

let me know if you want a used set. i may be going back to stock very soon for possible vehicle change. either way, make sure you are looking for an aggressive drop. the car looks and drives GREAT but there WILL be some neg camber.

06RT,

that's the delimma.. I would like the moderate drop of the Tein's but they don't have a actual part number for the M45. only the M35. not sure if anyone has used the Tein HT's on the 45 but nobody has chimmed in. If i had good feedback on the tein's on a 45, i'd pull the trigger without hesitation. let me know if you hear of anyone with them on a 45. thanks. Bill.

Well, thought I'd call Tein myself to get more info as to putting the M35 HT springs on the M45. bottom line is, the weight of the front end is not a big difference but the tech said he's not sure if the dampers are the same on both cars. i'd need to get the stock spring rates and part numbers to see if they are the same but i'm willing to bet both the spring rates and therefore part numbers are different. will let you know what i find out.

would still rather have the moderate drop of the Tein High Techs that the more aggresive drop of the Eibachs due to the fact that they will probably ride a little better and not negatively affect camber as much being as I'm looking at a staggard setup and will not be able to rotate the tires. how's that for a run on sentence?

any input is appreciated!

For all it's worth (workin' hard for ya), here is the Tanabe spring rates for M35 and M45. As you can see they are very close in terms of spring rates but much different drops...

..........................F/R.............F/R..............SPRING......RATE........DROP

M35 05 - 07......6.4 / 8.7.........1.5 / 1.0 M45 05 - 07.......6.5 / 8.8.........9 / 1.1

I suggest calling Eibach and asking what are the spring rates for the M35 and M45 seeing as tho the drop is the same for both.

Talked to Eibach and Tein again today.. got more information that's leading me to go ahead with the Tein's for my M45.

Eibach basically said the springs for the M35 and M45 are the exact same. The kit number is the same and from what tech support told me, there is very little weight difference in the two cars. He said the weight difference is not enough to make any noticeable difference. The spring rate for the Eibach 6376.140 pro kit is progressive and goes from 228 lb/in. to 331 lb/in. in the front and 399 lb/in. to 513 lb/in. in the back.

Tein doesn't have a specific part number for the M45 and wouldn't say to me that it's "ok" to use the M35 springs on the M45. That info i only got from Eibach. The spring rate for the M35 Tein High Tech (HT) kit is from what their tech support told me a "progressive type" spring that goes from softer to harder as the spring compresses but has a "linear" rate to it.... Basically, I don't think he wanted to commit to saying they were linear or progressive.. so he said they were both.. kinda. The rate for their springs are 399 lb/in. front and 510 lb/in. rear. Very close to the M35/45 kit from Eibach but with a more moderate (hopefully less camber issues) drop.

Therefore, since i prefer a more moderate drop in heigth, I'm going with the Tein M35 springs on my M45. Unless someone has information leading me not to, i'll be ordering them in a few days.

Any thoughts?

Bill

I think I'll be ordering the same springs shortly as well, however, I've got a 35. I'm basically looking for something that is visually more appealing than stock, a bit better handling via lowering and still a decent ride.

You gotta think though all things being equal, the stance will be lower with the V8 compared to a V6 model, no?

I've got stock 19"s, you? If so, maybe we can both pre-measure and post-measure spring install.

the wheel diameter won't be factor most likely since the effective height is about the same between most wheel/tire combos you'd run. the weight of the V8 on the other hand will likely make the 45 sag a little more.

I will measure the distance from the top of the fender to the ground on both sides and front and back.. not sure if the 100 lbs. of the V8 will make much difference (at least that's what I've read is the difference in weight). Eibach uses the same exact springs for the 35 and 45, but since they sit lower, maybe the extra weight is less of a factor.. I think i will order them tomorrow and get them on asap. That way, if i don't like them.. I can sell them to you at a discount and buy the eibachs.. what do you think!?

the ride height is pretty well documented with both spring set-up's.. so.. I will be able to know if the front is lower or not.. however, there may be a break in period right?

Yeah that'd be cool with me, I'm in no rush. I saw a couple of different auctions for springs from a couple of different ebay sellers for like $240 delivered. Assuming they're legit...

But yeah I think you could expect a settling-in period, but not really sure what that equates to in miles, and then how much more it drops. I thought I saw 07sportm35 post his "one month later measurement" on Freshalloy? Or maybe here?

lemme know if you decide the Tein Htechs aren't low enough for you still and maybe we can swap. my wife is giving me grief for the slammed appearance of my car although she can't detect the difference in the ride quality. i'm trying to avoid going back to stock height as i love the reduced body roll and dive/squat.

Tein HT's are ordered. Should be on next week, probably Wednesday or Thursday. Will post some before and after numbers for the M45. Haven't made up my mind yet on wheels. I think it's gonna look a little funny having stock wheels with a huge + offset once it's lowered. If anything, that will make me buy wheels quicker.

Tein HT's are on my 45.. looks good.. Taking a trip down to San Diego this weekend so I will take some measurements and pictures when I get back. Had the springs installed and the car aligned for $210.. not sure if that was a cash/bro price but it seems like an ok price.. the car aligned within specs on all 4 tires but, the dang printer on the machine wouldn't print out the results.. i think it was -1.3 in the fronts and -1.4 in the rears.. he wrote the numbers down for me so I will post those too when I post pictures.. so far ride is very close to stock.. haven't really been able to tell a difference but I've only driven a few miles.. I used the Wheel Supply here in Walnut, Ca and recommend them if anyone local is interested.

Backdoc...would love to take a look as I've been thinking of either eibachs or teins on my 06 M45. An old neighbor across the street has an 08 on eibachs and looks, drives great. He's riding on 21' wheels and the car looks amazing. You may have seen his Beige (?) M45 zippin along Chino Hills Pkwy. Perhaps we can all meet up somewhere local and compare notes? Heck we can meet at my place too. Let me know if you're interested.

Let me know what your schedule is.. Im usually back in this area by 6:30 pm and actually am usually available around lunch too. Look fwd to seeing your car.
