So this code hit me for the second time today. I already did some searching to confirm what it meant, of course finding it could be either the 02 sensor or the cat.

But the thing is the last time the check engine light came on it was this same code, which was over 2 months ago, I cleared it and hasn't come back on until today. The car hasn't been doing anything different as far as performance and fuel economy so could it be because i'm running 89 octane in it around town?

It just had all of the 02 sensors replaced 4-5 months ago at the Nissan dealership by the service tech I purchased it from so I would hope they're not bad again already. Anyways any other knowledge would be greatly appreciated before I start looking into replacing the cat or 02 sensors.

Did it rain either time that the code came on?

Yes, it rained pretty much the whole trip when we went on vacation(the first time it came on), and it's been raining for the past 3 days here.

*Update* It's raining here again today and no light again yet. I'm just gonna assume that the heavy rain made it throw the code again like the first time and see if it comes on again.

Did the code come back for you? I have the same problem and all O2 sensors were replaced less than a year ago. This seems to be a common problem on this car..

No, it's been over 2 months now and hasn't come back on again. I did that the heat shield was missing a bolt while I had it up on the rack yesterday at a friends shop. I doubt that was causing it but who knows...

Ok guys, not to bring forward another post with this problem but this code has been coming back to haunt me a lot more frequently the past 2 months or so... It's been coming back on every 2-3 weeks now if I reset it. I'm just wondering if I should go ahead and prepare to replace some things or not?

I was planning on getting a Warpspeed Y-pipe but would this be doing anything to help remedy the problem or should I be looking at replacing a cat or a sensor?

Do you remember what size non-fouler you used? Which sensor did you put it on? It looked like the rear one from the pics but I just wanted to confirm before I went to try this.

If you did the O2 sensors already and the code keeps coming back just get a catalytic cleaner and run that through. It helped one of my friends and then after that no more codes, it's been a year and a few months now. Also Cat and O2 codes can be set due to a malfunction of either part, not just one... if it's reoccuring after replacement, generally rule of thumb is to rule it out unless you used a universal O2 to replace the factory one... Try the cat cleaner, but in my experience high flow cats are decent replacements to the standards, as long as you get properly built ones.

got the non foulers from auto zone part number 42009. they are the non-tapered ones, and have the exact same thread so the only modification is to drill it out with 1/2" drill bit. i used it for sensor 2 bank 2, which corresponded to my other codes, specifying that sensor. it maybe another sensor in your case.

I just broke down and took it to the shop yesterday, they traced it to the pre-cat and it's gonna cost $780 to fix it. Oh well, i'd fix it myself but I don't have the space nor tools available to me right now to do so.

OEM cat/pre-cat is really expensive. Aftermarket ones are cheaper but usually last only a couple of years. Have you tried the 'cat' cleaner recommended by '"dtuner?" There are 3 of them available from Amazon - CRC, Solder It and Cataclean. They should also be available from auto parts store. I'm no fan of this 'kind of treatment but you can try it while you think of other options.

I'd be curious to know if replacing the pre-cat actually solves your P0430 code issues. Some people say that replacing it is a sure way to be done with that code. I tried the Solder cat cleaner and it didn't do anything, so now I'm looking at an Eastern Catalytic front pre-cat for around $200.Please keep us posted.

Yeah after all the reading I did on it I just decided it was better to shell out the money and get it fixed right. I don't like using additives and quick fixes either, especially on my daily driver. The guys that are working on it I think are giving me a fair price anyways, Infiniti wanted $1,300 to fix it.

Well i'll let you know how it goes, they're supposed to have it done today or Monday and it's being done with an Infiniti one so we'll see how it goes.

Well I got the car back from the shop, total repair cost was $830. They said they tested all of the sensors afterward and everything looked good. I've gotta take it to Infiniti tomorrow and get the ECM re-flashed and then we will see how it goes after I get a couple of weeks of driving on it. I'll keep updating as time goes on so maybe this hopefully will help people in the future.

Thank you for the update. I didn't think you'd need an ECM re-flash for just replacing the pre-cat, though.

I didn't think so either but the shop that I let do the job for me told me I would so Infiniti told me otherwise when I brought it in yesterday.

Just a follow up on my 0430.

Ended up getting a spacer/non-fouler/simulator from 02spacer.com. It has been over 100 miles and I passed emissions in TX. I replaced as suggested above, put in 1 tank of good gas, disconnected the battery overnight and ran the engine hot (drove 50 miles) before emissions testing.

The cat cleaner and good gas solution didn't work for me. I was going to get the eastern cat from performance peddler but not now. Perhaps next time. Thanks for all that helped.
