I checked some online part manuals and the Factory Service Manual. I could find no mention of the S model lacking a support beam. It appears all Rogue's (both S and SL) without a sunroof share the same roof components. The sunroof models have a different roof structure for obvious reasons. I cannot see why any rack (aftermarket or OEM) would not be able to take 50+ lbs. The edges of the roof where the rack attaches to is probably the strongest part of the roof structure.
So far I have not heard of anyone on this forum getting the roof rails from an SL installed on an S model. Many have asked, but it's very expensive and possibly tricky to install. Here is why:
1) The OEM parts from Nissan cost about $800 USD! This includes:2x Rails: $270 ea4x Endcaps: $28 ea2x Drip moulding (with holes for roof rails): $63 eaHardware: $10
These prices are from our site sponsors to the right =>I would not expect to buy OEM parts any cheaper elsewhere.
2) Installation is not straightforwardThe roof rails are bolted through the roof structure from both sides. You have to remove the headliner from inside the vehicle to install the retaining nuts. Care must be taken not to damage the side curtain airbags during the process as they are in the same location. I would figure at least 4 hours labour for an experienced mechanic or dealer to install them.
This is why others have opted to just buy an aftermarket roof rack. Although not as pretty, it's way cheaper.
If you do manage to get the factory rails installed on your S model, please let us know.
