Check the Glossary at the top of this forum, this already exists as a thread and there is lots of good detail about this specific issue for you. Good luck!

Thanks. I read that post and didn't see where anyone actually called a dealership to see if it was possible and had them install roof rails. I found an auto trim store that can order the rails and install them. They are offering a lifetime leak warrantly and a 2-year warranty on the rails themselves. The problem is that I know the S model does not have a support beam across the roof like the SL model does (or so I was told). So if I have the company install rails will my Rogue be able to support my 50 lb. kayak...

I checked some online part manuals and the Factory Service Manual. I could find no mention of the S model lacking a support beam. It appears all Rogue's (both S and SL) without a sunroof share the same roof components. The sunroof models have a different roof structure for obvious reasons. I cannot see why any rack (aftermarket or OEM) would not be able to take 50+ lbs. The edges of the roof where the rack attaches to is probably the strongest part of the roof structure.

So far I have not heard of anyone on this forum getting the roof rails from an SL installed on an S model. Many have asked, but it's very expensive and possibly tricky to install. Here is why:

1) The OEM parts from Nissan cost about $800 USD! This includes:2x Rails: $270 ea4x Endcaps: $28 ea2x Drip moulding (with holes for roof rails): $63 eaHardware: $10

These prices are from our site sponsors to the right =>I would not expect to buy OEM parts any cheaper elsewhere.

2) Installation is not straightforwardThe roof rails are bolted through the roof structure from both sides. You have to remove the headliner from inside the vehicle to install the retaining nuts. Care must be taken not to damage the side curtain airbags during the process as they are in the same location. I would figure at least 4 hours labour for an experienced mechanic or dealer to install them.

This is why others have opted to just buy an aftermarket roof rack. Although not as pretty, it's way cheaper.

If you do manage to get the factory rails installed on your S model, please let us know.

I have the 2008 S AWD and mine came with the roof rails. I'm sure you can get it installed at an aftermarket or OEM shop

Actually I ordered the parts today and with labor, parts and tax it came to $211. Does that sound crazy? They said installation should take about 2 hours. They will remove the interior and drill/bolt the rails to the roof. I called a few times to double check that we were on the same page talking about rails and not crossbars. The salesperson assured me that that price was for rails.

Yes, it does sound crazy. The OEM parts cannot be purchased for that price. I have a feeling you are either:

A) Getting used parts from a Rogue involved in a collision or some sort of 'black market part'B) Getting an aftermarket roof rack like this one:

I am fine as long as they have a warranty which they do. And they talked to the Nissan dealership across the street and ordered me roof rails for a 2008 model since Nissan said the roof rails did not change between years.

Nissan/Infiniti Parts USA:

Roof Rails

End Caps

Roof Moulding

If they are offering to supply and install the OEM roof rails at that price, it's a steal. I'm still a little suspicious though.

I also would like to purchase and install roof rails to my 2009 S model Rogue. Can you send me the information for where you were able to purchase the rails at that price?

aoshea hasn't posted here for a few months. Not sure if you will get a reply.

ahh thanks for the reply. Doesn't seem like anyone is having much success with it without spending close to $1000. I'll have to see what I can do

I think it was pretty suspect that aoshea could get the parts for $211. Something is just not right there.

IMHO, I would start looking for used parts at an auto recycler. Start here:

Hint: Search for 'roof'

If you only use roof rack/rails for carrying cargo, consider a Yakima rack. Read more here:

I understand this thread is old, but for all the Rogue owners who get here, you can pull up the black gutter trim on the roof and bolt right into the factory threads, provided you get the right bolts that match both the rack you want and the threads on the Rogue.

Stop drilling holes in your roof, its driving me nuts how dumb people are.

jedityfuji. Trying not to be one of the dumb people. Any idea how the black gutter trim is removed on a 2010 Rogue? Do I have to take out the headliner? Or does it just slide out like some kind of channel nut? Planning on trying to take it off this weekend to see how I can attach some crossbars for a surfboard and a canoe.

Thanks,

I just found this forum and this old thread. I have searched the internet for roof rails for a 2008 Rogue and found nothing - OEM or aftermarket. I pulled up the molding/trim strips on the roof and concealed under the strips are threaded bolts that I imagine I could just attach the rails to.

two questions:
1. where can I find the rails or bars (not a rack) ?
2. has anyone actually added these rails by just attaching them to the existing hardware?

Thanks !!!!!!

I'm the second owner of my 2008 Rogue S, No fancy features, bare bones but it did come with the factory rails which I use a lot for the roof rack. So the S with out rails should have the same hardware as the SL to install the rails, unless my S is different from other S's
