I changed the battery. Still the remote won't work unless I'm at 5 ft or less. Any ideas?1994 Infiniti Q45

There are only 2 possible causes the remote or the antenna in the car.

I would start with reprogramming the remote,

Then move on to the battery again, replace with a known good one.

Then check the antenna AKA Remote entry control unit.

Other than that there is nothing in the service manual that I can see about short distance issues and how to troubleshoot them.

Before this problem occurred how far away were you able to use the remote?

Not to thread jack, but I have the same problem. Changed the battery and it's still the same. Sometimes I have to be next to the car so that it works. Where's the remote antenna thingy located?

Probably about the only hope is to replace the antenna.. Mine used to work from a LONG way away, and I accidentally broke the antenna from a fuel pump replacement and it only works from a few feet away... Something Ive just dealt with.

If you've ever had the rear deck lid off for some reason (especially if you didnt do the work yourself), that could explain it..

I did replace the fuel pump. What antenna are you talking about? Are you talking about the radio antenna or some other antenna.?

Look at the picture above, you probably hit the control unit when you did your fuel pump.

I'm not sure if the 2nd Gen has it there or somewhere else......it should be somewhere in the FSM.
