Year and Model- 2007 M35XTire Size- 245/45-18 Mileage- 34,147 Tire Choice- Falken Ziex XE-912 Rating 1-5 (1 being equal to or worse than the RSAs ,5 being the TBD leader of this thread) 5 Price paid and number purchased (optional) $142.00 each x 4 Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N) Y I bought the car with 22,000 miles and immediately put on Cooper Zeon Sport A/S tires which were great, but I didn't do an alignment. The car ran straight and true with no tilt to the steering wheel or pull, but after 8,000 miles I rotated and the tram. started. Found out that the rears of these cars get out of alignment fairly easily. Put on these Falkens, aligned the car and everything is PERFECT. I bought the lifetime alignment at TiresPlus for $89.99 and now I will get them aligned, rotated and balanced every 6,000 miles. Over all comments about tires.

Price paid and number purchased (optional)- $0 (Dealer installed at no-cost to solve tramlining problem). Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N) Y Over all comments about tires- They seem like very good tires, although I only have the RSA's to compare. They solved the tramlining problem and are excellent in the snow and rain. I'm satisfied with these tires.

Year and Model- '06 M35x PremiumTire Size- 245/45/18 Mileage- 21,000 on these tires Tire Choice- ContiExtremeContact Rating 1-5 (1 being equal to or worse than the RSAs ,5 being the TBD leader of this thread) 4.5 (tread wear the only minus) when compared to the RSA's-my only other tire on this machine. Price paid and number purchased (optional) $133.00 US dollars x4 Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N) N Over all comments about tires Completely eliminated the RSA severe tramlining. Excellent in all conditions so far. I drive through lots of rain and snow-excellent. There is some road noise noted-don't know if it's the tires or just the machine. I have 21 k miles on them showing moderate wear so far. I was hoping I'd get about 40K out of them. It looks more like I'll get about 30K. Next fall I'm gonna' try the new ContiExtremeContacts DWS. Inexpensive-almost half the price of some of the other premium tires. Love'em!

Year and Model- 2007 M35XTire Size- Stock Mileage- 24,000 Tire Choice- Bridgestone Turanza's (Serenity) Rating 1-5 (1 being equal to or worse than the RSAs ,5 being the TBD leader of this thread) 5 Price paid and number purchased (optional) $205 / 4 Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N) Y Over all comments about tires: I was looking for a good all-season tire that offered exceptional handling, smooth ride, reduced noise (compared to the Goodyears)..AND long tread life. The Turanza Serenity's exceeded my expectations. I can't really comment on the tread life as they are too new.
These are remarkable tires. They're on the pricey side, but if I can double the life of the typical choices, I've done well. One other comment (and I DO NOT mean to be critical of others, believe me)... I had Conti's on a 2004 Mercedes. They came with the car. Horrible tire, IMO. These tires didn't last 18,000 miles, and I am not an aggressive driver. Handling was marginal, and in the wet I found myself slipping constantly. Not recommended.

I reall love this tire. had it on my Altima and great performance in the snow. doesn't give up much in dry and rain either and has a very aggressive pattern. best of all, really quiet. i switched them from my Bridgestone Potenza since we're still getting snow here and they're almost silent compared to the Bridgestone. Really great winter tire but 17 is the highest they go and i didn't want to drop 233 per tire on blizzacks when i haven't used them and knew these are great from experience.

Great idea Steve.Year and Model-2007 M35 Sport Tire Size-245/40/19 Mileage-1000 on the tires and 40,000 on the car. Tire Choice-Michelin PS2 Rating 1-5 (1 being equal to or worse than the RSAs ,5 being the TBD leader of this thread) I rate this tire 4 compared to the RSA Price paid and number purchased (optional)Only $350 of ebay (8/32) Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N)N Over all comments about tires. In terms of handling, driver feedback, and stability--outstanding. Road noise is a little bit higher than RSA's. Comfort suffers a bit. In a nutshell, way better than RSA's except in the comfort department. Also, it's a summer tire so extreme cold is out of the question(I live in Arizona).

I don't doubt you had problems w/the ContiExtremeContacts on your MB. I have heard stories about how folks w/machines other than the M35x who just love the RSA's and wonder why so many of us X owners complain. These machines are all very sophisticated and all very different in their response to their specific rubber; so that obviously one type doesn't fit all. The very reason for this thread is to get an idea of which particular rubber fits which particular machine better. Comparing a MB to the M35x w/the ContExtremes is kinda' like comparing how an Arab and a Roman Catholic think about a common slice of bacon. One man's meat is another man's poison. One machine's rubber is another machines' silly putty as you so well note w/your experience w/a MB.

So far, these are comfortable tires. Not as quiet as I expected, but handle well in the wet/dry. It's very important to have the wheels balanced correctly with stick on weights. Initially the balance was not correct and had a shimmy at 60-65mph, rebalanced and problem solved.

If there is nitrogen in there and they leak, can I add oxygen or will that cause a nuclear explosion or something :-) I'm not an expert by any stretch, what types of things should I be trying to notice when judging the tires?

So far the dry performance is about on par with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's that the Vredestein's are replacing. No rain in the SF Bay Area to see how they handle on wet pavement. I will update when I can report on the wet handling. I purchased mine from tire-easy.com which came up as the lowest price in bizrate.
Check out this youtube video on these tires, I'm sure you'll be impressed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyWMTiXPbLQ If you need more testimonials, just google Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta and go to all of the other automobile forums and read their comments about these tires.

RE: I'm curious, they offered to charge $10 per tire to fill them with nitrogen instead of oxygen - is that worth it? If there is nitrogen in there and they leak, can I add oxygen or will that cause a nuclear explosion or something :-)The only explosion you will hear is that massive sucking sound of your wallet being emptied needlessly. The air we breathe is about 80% nitrogen, and the tire, mounted but before inflating will have good ole' air in it, although not under pressure. Unless you are racing LeMans or Nascar or F1, you do not need, nor will you benefit from nitrogen in your tires. If you really believe it is a great thing, I have a full set (2 each) of left and right handed screwdrivers that I'll sell you cheap. Also some high performance muffler bearings made from unobtanium. So, just top off your tires with "air" and you will still be adding 80% nitrogen... and the tires will never know the difference. here's a link with more dialogue on this -- GOOGLE it if you are really bored. http://www.straightdope.com/co...f-air

Year and Model: 2003 M45Tire Size: 245-45-18 Mileage: 40,000 Tire Choice: Yokohama Advan W4 S Price: Discount tire was $175 each installed with lifetime waranty incl. bal and rotation. Replaced all 4. Rating: Definately A 5. Replaced the worn out B'stones at 24K miles. Always been a Michelin man but my Discount Tire Guy (I've been using the same manager for over a decade and he's sold me well over 20 sets of tires so far) highly recommended I try the Yoko's. So I did. Best tire I've ever driven on. Amazing grip dry and in the rain (no chance to try these out in snow in Tempe, AZ). Quiet as a church at 3am. Over 16,000 miles on them so far and still have 1/2 the tread left. I think I will put a set of these on the wifes EX35 when her Michelins need replacing. Alignment at time of Purchase: Yes Also, I rotate these every 5K miles.

do the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus also tramline? THey get good ratings, but am worried that the deep center channels cause tramlining. Also, it would be good to know how long the different tires last. FYI I have contiextreme and like them so far. Purchased them based on recommendations from this board.

I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but when i got the car the dealer put a brand new set of cheap wheels, that was almost a unknown brand, and when i checked it was around $200 for a set of 4, so i don't expect them to last long, but it drove in the snow fine, except for the bottom oil cover kept on coming off and dragging and then i had to bring it to the shop

I've gone through 4 different sets of tires for this vehicle. I usually run the Michelin Pilot Sports tires that have proven to be better, however at a much higher cost ($250/each). I get about 20K miles per set, rotating tires every 5K miles. Decided to try these Falkens and they hold up quite well in everything except snow. Have done 12K miles on them so far, and I have a feeling they too will get around 20K miles before having to be replaced. Obviously this is contingent on the driver/driving conditions. Compared to the RSA's that came with the car, they are much better and for the price, I feel they are hard to beat.

| Quote, originally posted by SteveTheTech » | | Ok Nico M members lets see if we can compile a list of what everyone is running for tires. By now we all know about the Ms fin achy steering response under certain driving conditions. Over my time here reading this board and speaking with a few of you, we all know that tires are the only cure for some of the suspension and steering complaints. If you guys don't mind Ill post a template in a post to follow this with the information to fill out. I made this an open poll. If you feel like adding your chosen tire for others to select by all means, go for it. I know many of you guys are either facing an upcoming tire selection or want to rant/rave about your Ms shoes. The intention of this thread is to create a resource for new and current members to share what are the best tires for this particular car. If we can compile information here and when your responses yield enough information we will create a finished guide. Any input and constructive content you can provide would be greatly appreciated by many people. Thanks In Advance |

Have driven in wet and dry and they hold up very well; handling at lower speeds is definitely improved. Noise level does not seem to have increased over RSAs. Just as smooth as the RSAs as well. And I believe it's helped my tramlining, although I need to drive a bit more to confirm.

Year and Model- 2007 M45Tire Size- 245/45/18 Mileage- 28K Tire Choice- Michelin PS2 Rating 1-5 (1 being equal to or worse than the RSAs ,5 being the TBD leader of this thread) 5 Price paid and number purchased (optional) Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N) N Over all comments about tires First impression is the best sport tire I've tried (any car). Amazing quiet and smooth for something so sticky. Car still likes to wander but no sharp pulls under braking (much better than RSA, slightly better then the snows). The real test is how a tire feels after about 15K. Would be interesting if people could rate same tire again after putting some miles on.

Year and Model- '09 M35xTire Size-245/45x18 Mileage-2800 Tire Choice-Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus Rating 1-5 (1 being equal to or worse than the RSAs ,5 being the TBD leader of this thread) 5 Price paid and number purchased (optional) ~ $800 for 4 tires Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N) No (new car) Over all comments about tires: Much less impact noise and harshness, less road noise, slightly better directional stability compared to the OE Goodyears Addl: OE Goodyears had a wear rating of 260: Michelins are rated as 500. At this point, I'm VERY pleased with these tires. We'll see what winter brings and if their durability matches the wear rating as miles accumulate. -Karl Modified by khaug at 10:11 PM 7/4/2009

Honest to gawd, my change from the Goodyear RSA's to ContiExtremeContacts eliminated tramlining by 99%; I know nothing is perfect and I still note the machine drift a little if I'm not daydreaming on very, very rare occasions.

I see the recurring trend of people in New Jersey or people driving through NJ complaining of this issue more than anyone. This is not a rule just an observation. This is not limited to the M and I noticed it on my rsx with brand new tires.

(4) Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N) Yes Over all comments about tires. Tires handle great in dry and wet conditions, however, they can be noisy, especially on rough roads. I would highly recommend these tires unless the noise issue is a deal breaker. Personally, I have the stereo on most of the time, so the only time I've been bothered by the noise is when I was on my phone using bluetooth.

So it's been a little over 6 months and there is some great information here. I would personally like to thank each and every member who participated thus far. If it is not too much to ask if you all could give us a quick update in mileage thus far and any wear characteristics you might have noticed. Thanks in advance.

Well, my 08 baby is up to 50,000 miles. I 'm currently riding on Michelin Primacy MXV4 245/45R18 Tires . I use to have Continental Contact something . These tires were supposed to b like Michelin. Well as a wise old coyote said once " DON'T YOU BELIEVE' or was that Daffy. Anyway the Michelin is a way smoother ride and worth the extra dough. As far as breakdowns; I'm proud to say no problems in the year and half I have own this car ( knock on wood) despite the many miles. Unless you count the damn brakes .I need to change them way to often . I'm on my fifth yes fifth pair and I have had my rotors cut once which I hate to do and don't believe in. When I get extra money I m going with slotted rotors and performance brakes . I hope I have better luck bcause when the brakes start to wear down for some fuc'ing reason the car cuts off the lane depature, vdc , slip. and the dams cruise control which really sucks azz. Once again . I just don't get. I hope the new M doesn't have this issue or i may bounce becuase I feel this is stupid and unnecessary .Hell Infiniti never heard of a brake warning light. P.S. When this warning happens it usually solved by re starting the car . Shouldn't b necessary and it Stupid bcause usually the pads r no where near done.

Huge Fan of Michelin Primacy-Replacing the O.E. Goodyear RSA tires [made in Japan RSA tires] has made a huge difference in on center feel, elimination of the need for constant small steering correction when cruising, and vast improvement in ride quality. The replacement tires: Michelin Primacy 245/45-18V. I had Michelin MXV4 tires as original equipment on several Saabs I purchased new, prior to my 2009 M35x, I had purchased 8 new Saabs. I was one of those academicswho were eccentric enough to keep buying Saabs! The Primacy is a superior tire to the MXV4, which had several upgrades over the years. For winter, I always had a set of Nokian tires on Saab wheels. Saab dealers would offer a set of wheels and tires at a total cost of $900-$1,000.

I am currently running Nitto INVO's 255/35/20. They are not as quiet as I like, but I am not complaining. I really like the BS 760's which I will probably get next. The tread life on the INVOs has been terrific and it will be a while before I need to replace them.

Year and Model- 06 M45Tire Size- 245-40-19 Mileage on these tires- 21,500 (in 11 months) Tire Choice- Goodyear Eagle GT Rating 1-5 (1 being equal to or worse than the RSAs ,5 being the TBD leader of this thread) 4 Price paid and number purchased (optional) (4)@ $195 ea. Alignment performed at or near the time of installation (Y)(N) N Over all comments about tires. Good choice for the money. Used in two snow storms when brand new and while they were nothing like winter tires, I never got stuck, even starting uphill (thanks, traction control). Very good wet traction and stability.
With over 20k miles on them, they are getting a little louder, but not obnoxious. Had an alignment done 3k miles ago, and rotate them every 10k. The thread depth seems to indicate that there is another 10-15k of life left in them (easy, highway driving, averaging just under 20mpg since new). All in all, would certainly buy them again.
